View Full Version : Comfortable slip on shoes that don't look awful with skinnies?

I'm 6 months pregnant and soon will be at the point I don't want to bend down to take shoes on and off all the time.

I mostly have been wearing my tall Frye boots this winter, both for work and for casual, so most of my maternity pants are skinnies.

I'd really like something comfortable and easy to get on and off without having to bend down. Bonus if they were dressy enough to wear to work (my office is not particularly dressy, but I can't wear Uggs or anything).

I have Dansko clogs but they look super dorky with skinny pants, IMO.

Help??

Get a pair of ballet flats. I have these and wear them everyday. http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-c38320/sonoma-life-style-ballet-flats-women.jsp

I was also going to suggest ballet flats, but if it's too cold to wear those, maybe some penny loafers or driving moccasins.

Not sure if these are too casual, but I have several pairs of the Mad Love slip-ons from Target that I've worn with my skinny jeans. They had some cute houndstooth ones w/ faux fur lining this winter, as well as solid colors. I also wear ballet flats, similar to what was posted above, only mine are from Target (I have several Merona pairs that are pretty comfy).

Would something like this look totally goofy? http://www.zappos.com/alegria-classic-brilliant-snake-leather?zlfid=191&ref=pd_sims_sdp_1

I feel like I will need more support than my ballet flats are giving right now..

I have these: http://www.6pm.com/ugg-rohen-sangria They are so comfy and soft but they look cute with skinnies and I can just slip them on.

I don't think those work. I third or fourth the rec for ballet flats. What about another pair of boots? You don't necessarily need knee high boots either.

If ballet flats don't work for you, I would go with a pair of booties.

You may just want to completely prioritize function over form if you want to truly have very comfy shoes that you can slip on and off. As much as I like fashionable things, sometimes I am all about comfort.
If ballet flats are not supportive enough, maybe try a loafer or boat shoe that can slip on and off. I would say low heeled booties as well, but the ones I have and really like, do require to be zipped up the side. http://www.zappos.com/sam-edelman-petty-black-suede

I have to say that those silver snakeskins seem like the worst combo of form and function IMO! I'd say get something a bit more subdued and just go for the more orthopedic shoes if you need them. Otherwise, a flat, loafer or boat shoe, or even flip flops. I had a fashionable friend who just wore flip flops the entire last 6 weeks of per pregnancy, even though it was winter (in CA).

Check out this blog. http://www.barkingdogshoes.com

The options in the most recent post might work. I especially like the munro ballet flat shown.

Those snakeskin ones are a no-go in my book. A boot, bootie, loafer or ballet flat would work. I have a pair of Dr. Scholl's ballet flats from DSW and they have a very nice amount of support.

While I think the metallic snakeskin shoes look can be cool, I don't think that particular pair you linked would be a good pick. The shape of the shoe looks too clunky and old looking.
That said, I do have a pair of metallic gold orthopedic granny sandals so I guess I'm not one to talk!
These are the ones I have:

Here are some other options you could consider:
A lot of people on YLF love this python bootie:

I'm not big on loafers but these metallic Topsiders look kind of cool (just don't get white!):
http://www.zappos.com/sperry-top-sider-audrey-gold-python
(it also comes in a more subdued platinum: http://www.zappos.com/sperry-top-sider-audrey-platinum, but if you're after the metallic snakeskin look, you have to own it!)

Or maybe some pointy snakeskin ballet flats:

These are just as clunky looking but more fun...I'd consider this for a casual sneaker:

Oh I wasn't going to get the weird snakeskin ones! I was going to get black. That's just the link being weird. But if you think they'll look crummy then I'll pass.

I have trouble finding ballet flats that will stay on my feet without having the elastic back (like tory burch revas) or a mary jane strap, which I can't slip on.

I just really want something I can slip on without zipping or strapping or bending over. I don't have a place to sit to put my shoes on and I keep almost falling over bending over to get my shoes on.

Not sure what size you are, but try to find some Cole Haan Air Bacara flats - supportive and elastic back so they stay on your feet easily. I lived in my Cole Haan and J. Crew ballet flats for my last pregnancy and found them plenty supportive. Personally I would avoid the more orthopedic styles with a clunkier heel - I tripped in Danskos during my first pregnancy (rolled my ankle), fell, and ended up in the hospital for a week. The second time around, I stuck to flat shoes exclusively.

Oh wow TxCat, that sounds scary! I'm glad you're OK!
I too tripped in Dansko clogs my first pregnancy when I was 8 months pregnant--I was walking down the sidewalk and rolled my ankle because the sidewalk was uneven, and fell right onto my belly (didn't have time to catch myself). Fortunately the baby was OK, but after that I gave up Danskos and wore Merrell Mocs instead.

Darn OP, I thought you wanted some cool metallic snakeskin shoes! Oh well. Maybe you can put a little chair by your front door.

I agree with Snuggle. I have very picky feet and need more support than typical ballet flats. I bought these from DSW and have worn them a TON. They are very, very comfy and have held up great with good support. I have them in the metallic bronze, but I think they look more silver. They will go with a ton.

I was going to suggest the same ones TxCat mentioned. The Cole Haan Air Bacaras are really comfy.

Slip on converse or toms are probably too casual for work but would be a good weekend option.

Ok, I'm going to put in a big zappos order today. Some Cole Haan bacaras and maybe some of the 1 inch wedge ones too. And maybe those clunky silvery snakeskin ones (only to wear to the OR I swear! :wink2:), so I don't fall and bash my head wearing my Danskos. Actually, towards the end of my last pregnancy I couldn't even wear Danskos anymore cause my feet got so swollen and wide, hopefully these will be better.

I also have the Cole Haan Air Bacara which I like but the last 2 months of pregnancy I just wore these http://www.crocs.com/crocs-mammoth-evo-clog/12878,default,pd.html?cid=58C&cgid=women-footwear-clogs and they were what I needed. Easy to put on and warm enough for CA winter.

Cole Haan Monica is a really comfortable shoe. They are my favorite shoe to wear to work. I got them for around $80 off amazon.

I have several pair of Alegrias, including the style you linked to (albeit not in snakeskin). They are my most comfy pair of shoes by far. They are my field trip "uniform" and were incredible for Disney too. I love Alegria patterns but I have a quirkier style than most here.
