I'm taking my DS in for a baked egg challenged tomorrow morning. Please send positive vibes my way. I would love for the poor kids to be able to enjoy muffins and cookies!

For those that have been, what can I expect if it yields positive (or negative results)? They said to plan for 4-5 hours!

We challenged tree nuts for DS2. They had me bring several nut items I wanted to be able to feed him. We took each item one at a time followed by observation. I dont remember how long we were there - maybe 3 hours? We're a limited screen time family. They had a TV in the waiting room and DS2 was in heaven. :)

ETA: Positive vibes coming your way! Hope they give you the all clear.

I actually knew immediately what the title referred to, because DGD1 recently had a soy challenge. She was pretty apprehensive especially during the first part of it because she had had a number of reactions in the past, but persevered and ultimately was declared no longer allergic! It did take quite a long time (maybe 4+ hours), but it was worth it. Like eggs, soy is pretty ubiquitous so it's made a major difference in everyone's life -- they can even eat out on occasion.

I only got the details secondhand but there was apparently a lot of waiting around between bites, so I got her some new books to take, plus she had an iPad.

Hope your experience is as successful!

Sending all the positive thoughts I can for you. I'm hoping to get my 8yo DS in for a baked egg challenge someday. His prior allergist wouldn't, but we are seeing someone new in a couple weeks.

We did a baked milk challenge a couple yrs ago and DS passed. They started by mixing some crumbs of a muffin (eggless) with water and doing a spt with the mix. Then they fed him a tiny amount, like a crumb, and set a timer for 15 minutes. Every 15 minutes they checked him a fed him double the prior amount until he had consumed 2 muffins in total.

It took 4.5 hours and he passed! I was worried because with the very first bite (1 tsp) he was already saying he had an itchy tongue. They monitored all his vitals and we kept going, increasing the amount each time. By the last feeding, he was eating 1.25 cupcakes and was so tired of cupcakes (never thought I'd say that). All in all he wound up eating a total of 3.5 cupcakes over 2.5 hours. Then they monitored him for two hours before we could leave. He did complain of an itchy throat or tongue but they said he still passed because it was subjective and he had no other measurable physical signs.

I'm supposed to keep feeding him cupcakes for the next week. Oddly enough he has had two already today and not complained of any itchy throat/tongue.

Also, this clears him for baked items that are mixed with a wheat item (i.e. flour) such as cookies and cakes and muffins. But it doesn't apply pancakes or meatballs, etc. But we're very excited about the new things he can eat!

YEAH!!! Did he do his challenge at Mt Sinai? I just ask because I saw a post about a boy passing a baked egg challenge on FB yesterday.
