Our current dishes are 10+ years old and starting to break more often. They are heavy stoneware that we originally bought at Target, and I do like that heavier weight. I grew up with Corelle but have seen it shatter a few times and don't want to risk it. I'd love to have a rainbow of Fiestaware but its not in the budget right now.

A friend is making an Ikea trip and offered to bring things back for us. So - are their dishes decent? Which ones would you recommend? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/eating/18860/

Thanks!

I am still using ikea dinnerware set I bought in 2000. I want to get something new but I can't justify it because the ones I have are in such good shape! Mine are very heavy stoneware with a matte finish and I bought them as a boxed service package. I got one in grey and one in blue because those were my main decorating colors at the time. I say go for it!

:yeahthat: except I bought mine in 2002 and they are white. I love them!

Yes! I have a double set of the white 365 dinnerware and they look fabulous after 3 years of everyday use. My sister commented during her holiday visit that she at first thought they were Crate and Barrel since I've accumulated so many of their white serving bowls, platters etc. and these blended right in. We don't do any special handling and have had no chips, scratches or damage.

I also have an older grey dinnerware set (most prob Dinera, sorry, not 365) from ikea purchased in 2008 and those have held up well too, to multiple moves and now as our backup plate set.

Yes!! I bought an off-white slightly scalloped set (I think it's called ARV) back in 2009 and it's held up beautifully!! It has fit nicely in two houses' dishwashers and cabinets. I love how I could pick and choose pieces - dinner, salad, cereal, and wide soup bowls. (didn't want mugs/saucers). Lots of abuse and only one small chip that blends right in. I absolutely LOVE my set... Wouldn't hesitate buying again!!!

ETA: I am not sure if you microwave, but they microwave beautifully as well, unlike other past dishes that heat up quickly and singe the fingers.

Thank you! Glad to hear such great reviews. :) We'll give them a try.

A few years ago I replaced our Corelle with the white porcelain IKEA dishes - I think they're 365+ brand. They've been really great. Only one chip I can think of.

We have these:

And they have held up wonderfully with 2 kids that must clear their own plates :) I agree they look like C&B dishes.

Those are the ones I was going to recommend, actually.

I had a set that held up OK, but I am clumsy & broke most of them; they were similar to these:

But mine were a medium blue rather than the mushroom-beige color this link shows.

I have a bunch of the IKEA 365+ dishes also (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50136317/) I love them beyond all words. I used to have a very busy Pfaltzgraff pattern (Naturewood) and the white IKEA ones are awesome after dealing with years of busy. Best of all, when they break (DH is very gifted at dish destruction), it's cheap and easy to get a replacement. Best home purchase I've made in a while!

Now that I'm thinking of it, I am really glad we have the plain white ones, too, after years of Corelle with pattern. I was so sad to give up the Corelle at first bc it fit in the d/w so well and was lightweight for the kids. But I just could not deal with the Corelle breakage anymore! Now I love the IKEA 365 ones enough that the bulkier fit in the d/w only bugs me mildly.
