View Full Version : Nude pumps/peep toes--is a wooden heel the style this year?

I have been looking for a pair of nude patent pumps or possibly peep toed shoes. My criteria are: real leather, lots of padding, not too narrow in the toe, and not too high. Yep, I have "Princess and the Pea" feet.

I found this pair at Clarks that pretty much fit the bill. However, I'm wondering about the wooden heel. I am seeing a lot of that this year. Is this "the" new look? I am not a big fan. I feel like it dresses down the shoes. Any thoughts? Or other shoes I could try?

They do have a pair of higher ones (with a platform front) that do have the patent heel--but they didn't feel as comfortable for whatever reason.

I'm biased. I love the wooden heel. I have a pair of nude peep toes with a wooden heel that i wear 99% of the time (my feet grew after 2 pregnancies and I still haven't bothered to shop for new work shoes). We have a really relaxed dress code at work though...I don't know if that makes any difference.

Here are some Clarks without a wooden heel. I agree that it dresses down the shoe. It's cute but less dressy. (Are these for your son's Bar Mitzvah?)

The platform actually makes the higher heel more comfortable, and it's rather sexy. ;)

Yes, they are for my son's Bar Mitzvah. : ) 2 months away! I did try those other Clarks in the store--they were really pretty but are starting to get a bit high for me. And for whatever reason, the peep toe area wasn't as comfortable. The ones with the wooden heel are a good fit. I'm just not sure about the heel.

Have you tried Cole Haan? Not sure if you have a Nordstrom or Cole Haan store near you, but they make great shoes that have Nike Air and are a bit more comfortable for people like you and me with fussy feet (I have bunions, and don't need a wide width, but some mediums are too narrow up front). I got a pair of CH nude patent leather wedges (with peep toe and wooden wedge) last fall on Amazon (they had them at Nordstrom and also some sizes on 6pm) that are pretty comfy- I wore them for a wedding and a holiday party & dance.

I actually did try on a pair of Cole Haan's at Nordstrom. For whatever reason, they don't fit me well. They were narrow in the toe and wide in the heel--and $200 on sale! Thanks for the rec, though.

I agree that the wooden heel dresses it down. I like the ones with a platform Bunnybee posted - you might like them if you try them on. I find that the platform makes the heel look higher, but it really isn't and is surprisingly comfy.

Okay--went back to Clark's again and re-tried on Bunnybee's platform peep toes. They are so cute! I simply has to will the to work! So, two pads per show later--one to push my foot back and one to grip my heel--they came home with me. With the pads keeping my foot from sliding forward, they feel better--less squished in the toe box. These shoes have a strange cut--wide everywhere but in the toe box. I will wear them around the house and see if I think they can work. Thanks for your suggestions. The not so fun part about planning a big event like this for me is the large array of decisions. I am a super slow decision maker!

ETA: Got them home and, who am I kidding? I can't walk in them. My heels are still slipping out. My toes are aching. Back to the drawing board. Just ordered Life Strides (not leather, but oh well) on Shoebuy as well as a pair of Bandolinos. They both come in wide, so I thought I'd give them a try.
