I'm talking to a co-worker and she's 50 and she's only had 4 jobs.

I'm 41 and, not counting fast food and jobs I had during college, I have had 6 jobs. The first three jobs I only stayed a year each. Also, I was a SAHM for 3 years. So 6 jobs in a span of 18 years=6 jobs. How about you?

7 different companies. And that's with time out for grad school and several years of being a SAHM. The longest I stayed in one place was 4 years and the shortest was 6 months.

Um ... ok I'd have to count. Since college graduation?
I am in my 10th job. Been working for 20+ years. I did 4 start ups in 2 years (2 failed etc). I was at my last job for 11 years :) crazy I know!

ETA mis counted! "only" 10 :)

ETA I will say that the moves earlier in my career bumped my salary significantly every move. I increased salary by 30k in 18 months. Also the multiple moves in start ups was a problem for me -- thus why I stayed in one place for 11 years. That said I think I did end up more upwardly mobile as a result of some of the moves. In 11 year stint I didn't have significant salary moves relative to the prior 10 years. Just some random thoughts :)

I've been at the same job since graduating college. It will be 16 (17 by their count, because they include my internship I did the year before I graduated) years next month.

I've gone looking for something else about 4 times in that time. Twice I found nothing better. Twice I had offers that I ended up turning down because they couldn't match some aspect of my current job (salary or time-off or flexibility).

Since college/grad school, I've been with 4 different companies, 5 if you count my 2 different federal jobs as different "companies" (different agencies). I was also out of the work force for 8 years as a SAHM between companies 3 and 4. :)

I have been with the same school system for 20 years! I have had different jobs within the system and at different schools but the paycheck comes from the same place.

Prior to that but after college, I had 4 different jobs and did a lot of tutoring on the side.

If I don't count college summer jobs and law school internships, only one. I worked at one law firm for 9 years and have now been a SAHM for 9 years.

Post-college? One; I've been at my current job for 13 years.

During college, I had two - work-study at the library (microforms & current periodicals) my freshman year and the college's inbound call-center, from my sophomore through senior years, plus 3 months post-graduation. (And I spent the summer between my freshman & sophomore years of college as a grocery clerk; I am not cut out to be a grocery clerk, but I really have a lot of respect for the kids who can cut it!)

I didn't work in high school, but had two semi-regular baby-sitting gigs when I was in the 7th & 8th grades.

I will count by places of employment, as I had two different positions within the same district when I taught for a few years before I went back to school, and have been in a few different positions in my present office. So, post-college, including part-time jobs while teaching and in law school, 5 different employers. I have been with my present employer for almost 12 years, not including time spent here as an intern while in law school.

Post-college I have had five "career" jobs (in the "glamorous" field of magazine publishing), and two part-time "extra cash" jobs. Through high school and college, I had several food service, retail, and office temp jobs as well.

I have been a SAHM for the past 10 years, and am now trying to figure out what I am going to do with the rest of my life.

I have 4 jobs listed on my resume, which are all of my post college jobs. The first two were between college and grad school, and one of those was a temporary, PT job I did researching and writing a report for 4 months right before I went to grad school. I've had 2 jobs since I finished my Masters degree nearly 14 years ago, which is unusual in my field, where most people tend to move around every few years.

I graduated college in 1997 and have had three jobs. I had a newspaper internship the summer I graduated, and didn't start my full-time job until that fall. Before graduation, I waited tables my senior of college, worked for campus housing the summer of 1996 (a ridiculously fun job!), and had a work-study job in one of the campus libraries sophomore and junior years. My senior year of high school, I worked at a grocery store, and I kept that job during summers and school breaks until 1996.

Since my undergrad graduation , I've had 3 jobs. I started earning my Masters in my 2 place of employment then moved to 3rd job upon graduation in a different state. Held that job for 9 years before quitting to become SAHM.

I am almost 37 and I graduated from college in Dec., 1999.

Post college: 3 distinct positions with two different state govt. agencies. First was a student assistant which I got my senior year in college and kept until I had been out of college for almost a year. The second one I had I promoted into at the same agency and was there for 3 more years. I have been in my current job for just over 10 yrs. now with the second agency.

In college: I worked at a Montessori school as an on call aide, and then I also interned for my congressman. I also nannied for a number of families. I never worked in retail or fast food. I still keep the Montessori job, and the congressional intern job on my resume to show that I have been employable since I was 18.

My DH on the other hand is on his third job post college. His first he was laid off from just 2 yrs. out of college, then worked outside of his professional level work for 18 months and was hired by his current agency (also govt. employee) in Nov., 2004 so he is coming up on 10 yrs. with his current employer this fall. DH worked for two grocery store chains from 92 (when he graduated from high school) until 98 when he went to work as a student for a state agency. He worked there his remaining two years of college.

Since college I have had one. I had started nannying during college, stayed there after I graduated until I got pregnant with my DS in 2009. I worked there for 11 years and started my in home daycare last year after watching kids sporadically in my home after I left my nanny job.

Post college working full time with no real break, (14 years) I've worked for 3 companies. I just "celebrated:banghead:" 10 years with the most recent. I've applied with other companies, but either wasn't offered or wasn't a good fit. In the current company I've even applied in other departments, but never got those positions either. I have been promoted or had my position "evolve" to accommodate new responsibilities or company restructure.

Since graduating college - 4 - my current gig as a SAHM is the longest at 10 years. All three before were different types of positions with different companies. I was with the one before my first DC for almost five years.

We are pretty stable now without any big changes on the horizon, but you never know.

In the calendar year I graduated from college - I graduated, got married, lived three different places and had two jobs. DH moved once, got married and worked three different places. Life is very calm now in comparison.

since graduating from college? Well, 1 hospital, I've done some different things there but basically stayed the same (RN). I've been there 12 years. During college I worked at about 4 places: the library there, 2 nursing homes and a home health agency (as a nurse aid)

I worked for 9 years between college and becoming a SAHM, plus a year for graduate school. Twice in that time period, I did temp work, sometimes for months at the same place, but I'll leave those jobs out. In those 9 years of employment, I had 3 professional jobs. For a year, I had two part-time jobs in related non-profits that shared office space, so I'll count that as one job.

I've had three jobs since college and the fourth is my own company since 2007. But I started working when I was 14 and worked through college and culinary school. So......12 altogether. ETA: And I am 36.

I've had four if you count the private practice I started two years before leaving to be a SAHM. All have been in different but related fields.
