The tragic book burning comment is awesome!! Also the lanterns-heck my family would whack itself in the crotch with how low those things are!

Too funny! Click on the link at the bottom for "if your kids were pottery barn kids…"

There used to be a blog like this (it might still exist?). They would caption the photos as if they were a-day-in-the-life of a yuppie couple… like "Biff wondered why Muffy was always leaving the buoys on the outdoor rattan coffee table..."

That's Gary and Elaine over at the Catalog Living blog. The person who runs it had a baby so it's been on hiatus. Always loved reading it.

We spend extra to buy kiln-dried wood. It burns better AND the bugs get killed so I'm not as grossed out about it since we store it in our basement. :)

In Newfoundland they have something called a "mother-in-law door". It's a door on the 2nd floor of a house that isn't connected to a balcony or stairs (on the outside). It's just hanging there like a window. I never did get a satisfactory explanation as to why it's called that or why it's so popular there. DH seemed to think it had something to do with how the house was taxed.

I always wondered what those doors were called! I always thought that maybe there was once a balcony, but it got renovated away, lol.
