We are planning on driving to Florida for spring break...from Michigan! The thing that strikes fear into my heart is our 21 month old and how we are going to keep him entertained and not Shreiking!!!!. He does not really get into watching videos and although we might try a little bit., he is still rear facing and everyone else is forward facing. We are going to try and drive as much as we can during nap in sleeping time but I think that we will still have a significant time where he is awake and I need some ideas. I'm hoping to double some of these for Easter basket ideas, since we will open baskets in the morning before we leave. Help! I am sure this has been discussed before but I am search challenged.

Thanks!

Good luck! I hope he sleeps a lot on the trip!

Here are a few ideas I've used with that age:
Magna doodle
Coloring book with a crayon taped to a string
Cookie sheet with magnets, can double as coloring surface
Water pen book http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009B7F6CA/ref=pd_aw_sims_1?pi=SY115
Snack trap with freeze dried fruit, cheerios
Masking or painters tape or post it notes
Flap books, these are favorites: http://smile.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Alittle+people+bo oks&keywords=little+people+books&ie=UTF8&qid=1397621960&rnid=2941120011
Easter eggs filled with something he can put in and out
Cars or trucks

We make a 12 hour drive a couple times a year. Here's what I always make sure we have:
yup, lots of snacks and sippy cups.
Leapfrog Discovery House- this toy is great in the car! http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-Enterprises-19180-Discovery-House/dp/B004MWJLHK/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1397622437&sr=1-1&keywords=leapfrog+house
M&D car maze- he can play "cars" without dropping or losing any of them. My DS didn't play it as a maze until he was 3, but he really liked just playing with it as a toddler:http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Wooden-Vehicles/dp/B000GKXYD4/ref=pd_sim_t_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=14QYM2WYKJKHXMDR6M7P
Flap books
Videos
Musical/light up toys for when it gets dark in the car, like toy phones etc, we like these two: http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Einstein-Take-Along-Tunes/dp/B000YDDF6O/ref=sr_1_17?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1397622801&sr=1-17&keywords=toy+phone and http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Learning-Phone/dp/B00022F0WE/ref=sr_1_27?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1397622884&sr=1-27&keywords=fisher+price+toy+phone
Musical/light up toy books like this: http://www.amazon.com/VTech-Rhyme-and-Discover-Book/dp/B0027CS7BI/ref=sr_1_18?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1397622955&sr=1-18&keywords=fisher+price+toy+phone

Even cheap dollar store animals that are new to him can be worth a few precious moments of contentment. Buy a large pack and offer one at a time, even better if they're each wrapped in something to rip open like tissue paper or foil, to keep him entertained as long as possible.

Plan for stops to run around, big box stores like Home Depot/Lowes are great places to burn some energy for 15 minutes when the kids are restless. Wide, empty aisles, and lots of ground to cover!
