Hi - DD will be going to a camp that is primarily outdoors (with some indoor time) this summer. I'm looking to get some water bottles so that I can send 1 to camp with her each day. Any recommendations on good ones and/or possibly any deals on them?

I'd like: Dishwasher safe, easy to take apart, no lids/caps to lose, etc.

TIA!

DS1 likes the 16 ounce Funtainers. A cheaper option would be the 24 (maybe 20) Polar Water Bottle. Plastic but insulated. No straws.

We've been very happy with our SS insulated cups from Costco, Contigo brand I believe. I also saw 2 packs of plastic cups, same style, at Target. They look like this.
http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Autospout-Striker-14-Ounce-Lavender/dp/B00E0ICUFG/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1398185508&sr=8-13&keywords=contigo

Here is a 3 pack of a larger capacity bottle 24oz., if you think she will need more water than the kids size for a whole day. I would load it up with ice in the morning.

Here Target online has the kids size on sale for $7.99 each

the larger size in pink, turquoise and grey are $12.99 each

+1 on anything by Contigo, their stuff is a little pricier but kid-proof.

I, personally, would use whatever ones I have on hand that aren't my favorite. I would think chances of loss are pretty high! ;)

So, for me, that would be anything that is NOT a Thermos intak (http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Tritan-Hydration-Bottle-24-Ounce/dp/B00DPLUCS6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1398186858&sr=8-2&keywords=intak). They are my favorite by a mile. :) Here's the older model (http://www.amazon.com/Hydration-Bottle-Rotating-Intake-Meter/dp/B004G1VTTK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1398187326&sr=8-5&keywords=intak) for a bit less, these are what I actually have.

We have the Polar ones listed above. Originally DS1 used (which DS2 will use next year for K) the funtainers, but it is hot where I live and it wasn't holding enough water for him. I take the Polar ones (doesn't have a straw just a lid) and fill it about 70% full. I then put it in the freezer overnight and add the other 30% in the morning.

Thanks for the suggestions! I had been looking at the Contigo one - bonus that it's on sale at Target.

Agreed. I'd send something serviceable but cheaper, in case it disappeared

For non-insulated I love my Contigo bottle. No need to bite down to get the water to come out. Got at Costco, but here is the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Autospout-Addison-24-Ounce-Watermelon/dp/B00C5G3PCC/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1398200227&sr=8-9&keywords=contigo It does have three parts (bottle, lid and straw).

For insulated I love the Thermos hydration bottle: http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Insulated-18-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Hydration/dp/B000FJ9DOK/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1398200318&sr=8-16&keywords=thermos Only two parts (base and lid) and will keep drinks cold for hours (not for hot drinks because of the open spout inside).

We love our Thermos SS bottles for keeping water cold in the summer. But DD1 didn't like taking hers to school with her lunch, said it made her backpack too heavy. And she broke the lid when it fell of the lunch table. I ended up getting her some plastic Contigo bottles. They have the press spout like the Contigo coffee mugs, not the flip style like PP linked to at Target. The water stays pretty cool if I put ice in it in the morning. And they've held up very well. I paid $10 each at Barnes and Noble because I think. I may check out the flip top ones that are on sale at Target though, will need a few for DD2 for kindy next year! We use the Thermos Funtainers for everything else though and I buy them when I see them on clearance at Target. I wouldn't risk sending them to camp though, for fear of losing or breaking it. I agree with other posters, send something cheap so you aren't upset if it doesn't last the whole summer!

Oh, just remembered, we also have SS (non-insulated) bottles w/ sports caps from Old Navy and I think I paid $3-$5 each. They often have different patterns on sale. If I put ice and cold water in them the water stays cold for quite awhile, but because they aren't insulated, they do sweat.

I gave up and now send with little disposable water bottles. Ds2 is more responsible than ds1 but I'm still sick of losing them. I usually reuse one for a few days.

I now send the Old Navy ones with anyone under 8.. we've just lost too many of our good ones. This way I'm not crazy upset and stalking the lost and found for them. For all other things (school, sports where I am there, outings with family or nanny) we use any one of the many higher end ones listed above and Kleen Kanteens. I love the Contigos for the adults and now DS1 has discovered and really likes our new ones so I need to get another 2 pack from Costco.

:yeahthat: I have some basic (freebie) stainless steel and also plastic water bottles that I send anywhere like camp or sports. Too often they don't come back. I just freeze water inside overnight and its fine. All of our camps have a giant water cooler where the kids can refill so I usually just sent 16 oz.
For family events, I like both camelbak and contigo fip top. The kids love pushing that button!

We have just sent a Funtainer the last couple of years and then she either refills or drinks from a water fountain when it is empty.
