BBers, thanks for the congrats on my new daughter Wren Charlotte! I apologize for not announcing pregnancy and absenting myself from here for months. It was an extremely high risk pregnancy and I just couldn't bear to hang out around here with all things baby until she was safely delivered. The pregnancy felt like a test of nerves and I actually didn't "announce" to anyone who didn't see me - - I am making abashed phone calls to IRL friends now too! I made it to 37.5-38 weeks (post uterine rupture was my major risk factor) and I had my planned c-section basically full term. Baby was in perfect shape at 6 lb 15 oz, 8,9 apgars, no time in NICU and no complications! I just couldn't figure out how to tell all of you after my long silence!

Thanks again. :)

And I love her name, BTW. I used to attend a trade show in a building that had a Wrenn wing, and I always thought that would make a great name for a girl! :)

Well, like most good ideas, the name Wren came from here. :) A poster --kdeunc I think it may have been you -- had it on her short list and did not use it.

Kdeunc, my DH was not as crazy about Wren as I was, we had the same issue. However, I ended up having some horrible anesthesia complications (Txcat I have given my best to resident medical education in your field, I was butchered by the resident!!). After days of not being able to walk, a return trip to the hospital where I had to lie flat in the back seat, the one silver lining was that DH was at that point thrilled to name her my first choice, pretty much no matter what that name was! He chose Charlotte for the middle name which is a family name for him.

sste, I am glad my choice was used by someone. i love Wren. We did name DD Erin so close to Wren. :)

So sorry it had to be in response to anesthesia complications (DH is an anesthesia provider!). Hope you are healthy now! Glad your DH got a family name in there too.

We may be facing a similar decision soon, minus the really high risk part.

:(

I'm guessing post-dural puncture headache - I'm so, so sorry. Every patient that I have seen with one (not mine! Fortunately I have a very low rate of this complication, but I've done blood patches on some of my colleagues' patients) says it's the most miserable that they have ever been, and I believe them.

Beautiful name for your daughter though, no matter how you came about it!

Thanks everyone. Kdeunc Erin is beautiful!

Txcat, yup you nailed it - - my back is pretty normal, a little tight but nothing extreme. However the resident tried two levels (and I think multiple attempts on one of those) and seemed even to me to be struggling. The attending got it on the third try, painlessly, in about 30 seconds. But I think my spine was a pin cushion at that point. My first blood patch failed after working for almost two days -- and they delayed #1 basically because the attending on call 24-48 hours post delivery was extraordinarily lazy, terrible reputation and refused to do it saying I needed conservative management for a day or two more on the theory that I was too severely leaking (wouldn't that suggest the opposite, even my CSF deprived brain was asking)! Thank goodness we only had 12 hours of him and then another attending came on and did patch #1, my DH didn't even want the other doc to do the patch, he said his technical skills were questionable. Number 2 blood patch on day 5 (emergency trip back to hospital) was with an awesome anesthesiologist and worked! Unfortunately, since I had the three epidurals and then the two repairs I have some residual hopefully just inflammation and lower back issues and problems with my legs collapsing. The PMR thinks it will likely resolve in 2-3 weeks.

Anyway, I am a believer in the academic system, letting the residents learn, etc. but this experience has TRULY tested my beliefs!

Oh my goodness, what a terrible experience! I had to have a blood patch too, and the pain I was experiencing prior to the patch was the worst I have ever endured. Sounds like you got a double dose.

So glad you and Wren are doing well.

I had a very high risk twin pregnancy. I was bleeding through my first trimester until 16 weeks and was sure I would miscarry so I did not tell anyone until about 18 weeks in, including close family. Some were hurt, but they got over it. I totally get the silence. Happy for you and your family though! Beautiful name.

Wow congrats sste! I'm so happy you joined the three-ring circus club--I know you had wanted a third and I know how much you had to go through for #2 and weren't sure whether you would ever be able to. I'm glad it all worked out. Hopefully the residual effects of the epidural complications resolve quickly. Love the name Wren Charlotte. Charlotte was my pick for #3 if Henry had been a girl. So happy for you and your family--congrats!!!

I too remember your second delivery story and posts since then about options for a third. I am so happy that things turned out as they did, minus the epidural complication. I always enjoy your calm and clear posts, and it's a beautiful name. Your story about your DH caving on the name surprised me until I remembered my DH agreed not to circumsize DS because of him watching me just go through labor. You got a beautiful name and little girl out of it!

Congratulations!!! So exciting!!

Totally understand why you waited- with DS2 a lot of people only found out at like 28 wks b/c I was so excited to pass the 1hr after having GD with DS1, I posted about it on fb.

Epidurals are always the worst part of c-sections for me, IDK if I have a tight back or if it's normal for them to "try" and miss (omg that hurts!) several times. But yeah, I hate that! You poor thing!!! And 37.5 wks is amazing!

Enjoy that sweet baby. Love her name! And welcome back!
