Dislike counter stools, now what?

We finally ordered counter stools from Pier 1. They are leather like material, in the Mason style. Now my husband thinks they are uncomfortable. I suppose we could return them, but live 2 hours from the store. He thinks it feels like he slides out of them. They are kind of slippery.

Should we keep them and hope that in time they get more comfortable? Or return them, and if so get cloth or what? We live 2 hours from any larger city, so I'm guessing I'll have to re-order online. They must have backs.

Were they expensive, and how many of them? I would probably make the effort to return them if I could somehow turn the trip into something more than just returning the stools. Like if I could get more useful shopping done nearby there in one big shopping trip.
