would you wear this dress to a dinner @ a tiki bar?

I am going to be a non voting member of my Jr. League board of directors for the upcoming league year and our league's annual dinner is at a Tiki Bar restaurant, and I own one dress that is Hawaiian in style, but it is about two sizes too small:(. So I am thinking of renting this dress from Rent the Runway. The incoming and outgoing boards usually attend and dress the theme if there is one so I want to do something a little more than one of my Boden or Talbots jersey dresses, but really am not sure I want to buy something new. Any other recs under $50 would be appreciated either rental or where I can order it and maybe I wear it more than once. I have either nude or black peep toe pumps, dark tan leather wedge slides, or white ankle closure wedges with a cork heel.

I do agree with you, RTR has nothing tropical in my price range and I seriously rarely do tropical which is why I want to rent, but maybe I should just start stalking Target and see what they have (but with my luck tropical will be all the rage next year!)

I was going to suggest checking Kohl's, I can picture them having a lot of summery floral dresses that could work (not really my style either, but I'd still rather buy if it's the same or less than renting!). Like these...

You could also check ebay for Tommy Bahama...tropical prints are their specialty.

Gap has this. The reviews are all over the place, but I think it's kind of cute. I almost ordered it a couple of times. Not sure if the denim it too casual.

I had found a more tropical looking dress at JC Penney as well and loved the pattern, but all 3 sizes I tried all had zipper issues. I thought it was that I have a broad back, but when I couldn't get the zipper up on the largest size, which was a size larger than my normal dress size I chalked it up to being a bad zipper. (sadly I can't find a photo of that dress on jcp anymore)
