Looking to install a water filter under our kitchen sink to hook up to our existing faucet. Don't want/need reverse osmosis. Just a carbon type filter. I would like it to filter lead, some pesticides, etc. and to be cost effective with respect to replacement filters/cartridges.

Any raves for your water filter? Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: For anyone looking I found this company via a gardenweb recommendation and was very pleased with prices -- I was looking for a kind of "no ad" version of a water filter without pricey cartridges. They are also very knowledgeable on the phone in helping you choose the right filter. http://www.purewaterproducts.com/

I've had a GE dual-filter under-counter water filter for almost 7 years, and it has been great. The initial installation was done by the maintenance people where I live, so no first-hand experience, but they were impressed by how easy it was. Changing the filters is super-easy -- they just screw on. I change the filters about every 6 months (there's a built-in monitor/sensor/whatever that keeps track of usage, but when it's time to replace them, I can tell because the water doesn't taste as good). Whenever I need replacement filters, I just search the web for the best price, which seems to vary a lot.

This is the one I have, but GE makes several similar ones depending on what you're trying to remove :

Unlike some of the reviewers, I have had NO problems with leaking -- I suspect some of the problems may be related to the original installation.
