Our family was just invited on a dessert boat cruise for this weekend and I'm not sure what to wear. I have both of these skirt on order from Gap and they should be here in time, but I'm not sure what to pair them with to really make a great outfit. The cruise will be in the evening/dusk, so it could get chilly as the night progresses. I thought about the ubiquitous tank top and denim jacket, but DD will probably wear a denim jacket and maxi skirt and I don't want to be matchy-matchy with her. Great suggestions? It would need to be B&M so I can get it in time. We have most of the usual nearby (Target, Kohls, Gap, BR, Limited, AT, Loft, WHBM etc etc etc).

(Both in the blue stripe colorway).

I tend to be a simple bottom, fancier top person. With those skirts, it's hard to picture anything not t-shirty or a tank on top. A print maxi dress with a great necklace and a denim jacket would be cute. I wouldn't be bothered by DD wearing a denim jacket too.

I have the smaller stripe version of that second one in grey (style looks identical but stripes are finer). I pair it with a form fitting extra long cami (H&M) and a light weight cardi (ON thin, 3/4 sleeve) for nicer but not fancy occasions. It's also great with tees. I find that maxis need a more fitted top to not look frumpy (on my, as least) so I like to layer a fitted tank with whatever over it. I think a denim shirt could work, but I'm not a big denim/chambray shirt girl so no help there.

This look is what I had in mind, but I wouldn't do plain black, and I'd wear more noticeable jewelry.
