We just finished our basement and one of the things I would like to move down are all of my girls game, mostly board games of many sizes. I was thinking of some type of cabinet that could be closed (no glass as I don't want to see in) and would have shelves. I am having a hard time coming up with the words to search (say on CL) as I find china cabinets or TV cabinets that have a large open area rather than shelves. I would rather something taller than wider to save on floor space.

Any suggestions for a type of cabinet to store games (say from ikea?) or even some ideas I could search CL for?

We have ours on shelves in a closet. Is that an option?

Maybe an armoire?

We're getting this set up from ikea our our entryway, it could work for games too: http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2012/08/back-to-school-our-organized-entry.html

We bought a TV armoire in CL and added shelves inside. We bought adjustable shelf track and shelf boards at Lowes. It was very easy to install. I cut the boards to length and stained them.

Nope, no closet as that would have been my first choice.

Yes the more I look the more I think if I want to have it closed that will have to be the direction I go in. Just need to convince DH to do the shelving. :)

Search "armoire" on CL and view as a gallery. I find tons available here and they are fairly cheap because everyone is getting a flat screen tv these days.

For example, something like this one:

36743675

Would be super easy to add a couple shelves in and you have drawers at the bottom for card games, etc.

The nice part about the entertainment centers is that you can store board games with the short edge out. Most bookshelves are not deep enough for that.

Have you looked at the Besta series from Ikea? The shelves are deeper than an average bookshelf, plus you can choose from different door styles.

Thanks everyone, and especially those who provided pictures. I am going to see how I do with the armoire option on CL and if not see what options I can do with the Besta series from Ikea.

Yes to the Besta series or even an Expedit with the extra cabinet doors.

IKEA sells bookshelves you can buy doors for.

we use that thing from PBK for games. Works well. Is too $$ for the quality IMO.

I've never tried these, but they look like they'd work:

I think O Mom's idea is great! That is how I've been storing my pots and pans since my kitchen has limited storage. LOVE armoires! I kind of like the shorter ones because they are easier for me to move around the room myself!

I was going to post a link to these. We stayed at a resort earlier this year that had games in these and I thought they were genius!
