View Full Version : Recommend some shoes for me, PLEASE

With the weather getting cooler, I need to tuck away the flip-flops and get out real shoes. My fall/winter "go to" shoes were completely beat last spring, so I tossed them so I wouldn't be tempted to "make do" another year. I need a cute (or at least pass-able) pair of easy on/easy off shoes for running errands, going to the bus stop etc. Ballet flats would probably be a good choice, but my feet are blocks of ice and I need to be able to wear socks (which don't seem to be compatible with ballet flats). I'm mostly just a jeans/casual outfit kind of person, so they don't have to be super fashion forward, but still nicer than running shoes. I have worn Danskos in the past (one of the pairs that I tossed out), but whenever I wear those, they just make me feel frumpy so probably won't replace them with another pair. Suggestions?

I'd buy some Toms though I don't wear socks w mine so they aren't better for warmth than ballet flats. Cute sneakers? There are some good Converse and Keens.

Converse. I have the slip on kind. They are comfy and can be worn with socks or bare feet.

What about a pair of booties? http://athleta.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1015859

I love my Danskos for fall and cold spring days. Ugg Laila sneakers (fur lined and slip on) may work.

Some cute sneaker options here. http://athleta.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1015688&mlink=46866,8796098,D_Main_1_Shoes&clink=8796098

I can't seem to find the Ugg Laila anywhere...do they still make them, does anyone know?

I checked out Converse....very tempted to grab a pair of those. I also found these Merrells (I would probably go with the dark brown). What does anyone think?

Another vote for ankle boots of some type. Sam Edelman petty?

I have reynaud's so my feet are always freezing - I live in boots in the winter so I can wear wool socks easily and still hide them (most of mine are ugly colors since I get whatever is on sale at STP). So another vote for ankle or even mid calf boots.

I hadn't picked boots or booties because, even though I think they are a great staple, they aren't my favorite for easy on/ easy off. :)

Even a chelsea style? I find that as quick on and off as just about anything that isn't a plain dansko clog?

Would something like this work? I'm considering a pair for the same type of use-- quick off and on when I don't have the time for tall boots or want to be able to race around the park with the kids. They won't win any fashion awards but look comfy.

True. But, I find there are some pants they are a pain for (like my straight but not skinny jeans- I never have a good place for my booties then).

True! I tend to either wear narrow enough to tuck into boots or boot cut pants, not the inbetween because it makes shoes hard.

Wearing a pair of booties similar to Sam Edelman petty (knockoff from tjmaxx for $40, still actual suede) and they are super easy on and off for me.

I live in my Dansko clogs or Doc Marten Mary Janes on the weekends during the winter when I need socks. If I don't need socks I wear ballet flats. My feet are super wide so sadly Sam Edelman flats don't work for me (had this same issue when Sam & Libby shoes were popular in the 1990s)

I'm ISO the same type thing op, cold feet and all. I end up in my yoga pants and tennies a lot on the weekends but I want to get away from that. I'm thinking about a pair of drivers.

I am not ashamed to admit that I make almost no effort to look cute or fashionable. I dress business casual or better for work, but at home I live in capris and tanks or tees in the summer and jeans and hoodies in the winter. I love my LL Bean comfort mocs for easy on, easy off, but warm winter shoes.

I got some cute black polka dot on flax linen Toms that I've gotten a ton of compliments on, but I haven't tried to wear them with socks yet. I also got some really cute thigh high slouch knit socks in charcoal that I'll be pairing with shorts, booties and sweaters to bridge the transition season. It's still in the 70s here, so we aren't quite in boot weather, hence the Toms.

I have been thinking about this. For gran and go shoes, on the fall, I don't want to deal w socks. I loath socks. Booties= need socks. I love them otherwise. :)

Agree that booties like Sam Edelman Pettys (which I have in cognac) can go with skinny/ straight/ bootcut jeans or pants and elevate them a bit beyond Danskos. They are more grab and go than one might think... I often find that I have been wearing them for a couple of hours and have forgotten to do up the zipper. Same goes for the similar pair of Clarks booties I have in taupe suede. I wear both through 10 hours of clinic and no discomfort.

Another vote for clogs. http://www.easyspirit.com/Steuben-Clogs/57629637,default,pd.html?variantSizeClass=&variantColor=JJ4WTA1&cgid=57906899&prefn1=catalog-id&prefv1=easyspirit-catalog

I also like Easy Spirit Ardie sneakers that have no shoe laces but you still can do some adjustment on tightness.

You are right. I can't find them either. I have the Evera and they are awesome.
