moms of boys...

would this be a good xmas gift for a 3.5 year old boy who loves trains and the like?

i saw this deal today on amazon and wondering if it's a good deal for this type of brand

http://www.amazon.com/Lincoln-Logs-Redwood-Junction-Exclusive/dp/B00CTUFWA2/ref=br_lf_m_10166504011_1_7_img?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=toys-and-games&pf_rd_p=1969118322&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=10166504011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0GTQYF91HB3S06KJHPP8

if it was retailing full price, i don't think i would buy it but since it is such a good price...i would buy, but only if it's something that is long lasting.

Neither of my kids loved Lincoln Logs, but they both really like tinker toys, especially my almost 3 year old daughter. I bought the 200 piece tinker toy set today to put away for Christmas. It was also half price, and camelcamelcamel said it was the best price, so I sprung for it. Knex are also on sale. I don't have any experience with those.

I would think that's a little young for LL. I haven't gotten ours out in a while, but DS wasn't really able to build on his own with them last time that I did. I LOVED them when I was little, but you really need to have a bunch to do much.

DS played with Lincoln Logs, mostly building cabins.

He still uses them to make targets for his nerf dart guns, although he prefers the jenja set as they fall over easier.

DS never got into the tinker toys we had for him, each kid has their own preferences.

My kids have gone through phases where they enjoyed them, but they have never been a favorite building toy. They really did better with them when they were older (6+) vs. younger. We donated ours last year I think.

Thanks for posting this. DD loves Tinkertoys so I bought her the 200 piece set and also a small starter set to donate.
