The Biscuit has discovered dinosaurs and is enamored. He got an Imaginext dino (anklysaurus, I think) as a birthday present and it gets a fair amount of play (sometimes attacking the Imaginext Rescue City), but at school he loves the plastic dinos that they have. We went to Toys R Us to pick up diaper doublers the other night and I could barely tear his away from an Imaginext T Rex that was on a low shelf.

Any suggestions on brands, particularly with an eye to durability? If The Biscuit loves a toy, it will get lots and lots of hard play and needs to be able to stand up to what he can dish out! Something that both sets of grandparents can buy pieces to would be particularly welcome.

Schleich dinosaurs are more expensive, but more "Weight"

OTOH Toys R Us also has those "canisters" of plastic animals in "Dinosaur" and we've had no problems with the sea creatures and farm creatures we have

My 5 year old is coming out of his dinosaur phase, but it was a long phase and his obsession was over the top. We had everything from Schleich to $1 dinos from the Dollar Store. They ALL got tons of play. He has one Imaginext dino, the triceratops, and it is the least played with dinosaur he currently has. He also had a Vtech Dino Switch-and-Go that got no play what so ever. That one was eventually donated. He had an Animal Planet set from TRU with a large T-rex that roars, and he likes it quite a bit. It has had a lot of play and has held up well. Imaginext toys are well built and hold up very well. My DS just never got into them. He like the more realistic looking figures.

This set got a good write-up on that big toy gift guide someone posted here last week: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00004YT3U/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1416421352&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

The V-Tech Switch-N-Go dinos are a huge hit here, but only the smaller ones. The large ones (we have two) get no play time. In fact, they've been hiding under the bunk beds for a few months and should probably be donated.
