My mom wants to buy me a new purse for Christmas. In past years she has been getting me Vera Bradley stuff, but I think I want a solid color for winter. I have an older style VB Saddle Bag that is a great size, but its too summer looking. And I've decided I just need to always carry a cross-body bag when out running errands as totes and shoulder bags eventually start to make my neck/shoulder hurt.

What I need it to fit:
Larger wallet (currently using a Vera Bradley Turnlock wallet)
small cosmetic bag (was one of those freebies from a Target promo a few years ago)
reusable shopping bag like Chico or Envirosak
hard sunglasses case
keys
iphone

I like leather, but I think I want something lighter (and something that I won't feel bad about using in rainy/snowy weather). Probably a boring solid neutral (maybe gray/charcoal or black). Pockets on the outside for my cell, tissues, etc.

I was thinking something like Baggallini and I've been stalking TJ Maxx and Ross but haven't seen any styles in person that I'm crazy about. Most of the Baggallini at TJ have large light colored zippers which look weird to me (cheap looking). I've seen the Sydney recommended alot on here, but am not sure if it is big enough for the larger wallet. Anyone want to weigh in on the Sydney for me? I know there is a Big Sydney, but alot of reviews say it feels heavy when packed up due to all the metal hardware.

I don't know much about Kipling, haven't seen them around. Used to have a Lesportsac Everyday Deluxe that was a good size but I didn't like that it wasn't tall enough to hold a water bottle if I had one along. My mom suggested looking at Travelon (she's a big QVC shopper and she saw them on there). I don't need the credit card slots alot of these bags have, as I prefer using my wallet since I do switch out bags depending on what I'm doing (my nice leather bag if I'm out to dinner, a VB tote for church, and the cross body for everyday errand running). Also looking for something on the less expensive side (preferably around $50 or under, love to look for sales, coupons, etc.). And I want something cute, not something that screams travel bag, since I will be using it for normal day to day life. Hit me up with suggestions and places to shop! Links would be great! Thanks!

I think a Baggallini would be perfect for you. Check out the Provence and Sydney (there's also a Big Sydney) styles. The Sydney is a perfect cross body with a good outside pockets. You won't lose your keys, phone, etc. Ebags has competitive prices. I love my Overland bag, but it's definitely more sporty/travelly than not.

Kipling bags are cute and lightweight.

I can't remember which one I have, but it holds a water bottle. (It holds more than a water bottle! I mean it's tall enough for one.)

I have the Baggallini Everywhere bag in charcoal. I LOVE it. It easily meets all your requirements, and I think the charcoal is not too boring because it has a fuschia interior. I feel like I've finally found my holy grail bag.

ETA: I got mine from Shoebuy.com, which always has a decent coupon floating around. Right now there's a 25% off code.

Check out LUG. It's a fun brand. Also if you want to go more higher end... MZ Wallace. Has some nice cross body styles. I have not gotten any yet, the two I have are bags I use for work, but the crossbody casual bags looks great.

Sherpani makes some quality bags. I just ordered this one to give as a gift:

they have other styles, too.

Thanks for the links to look at :) I do have an Overland Donner, but that is my vacation/playground bag in the summer. A bit more sporty than I want for everyday.

So I open my email this morning to find some good daily deals! 30% off at shoebuy.com, 30% off select bags at Amazon, and an extra 20% off sale bags at ebags (the Everywhere is on sale, so the extra 20% off makes for a good deal). So, a few Q's for those that own the bags mentioned above :)

Does the Baggallini Everywhere and Kipling Europa feel like it is really deep when carried crossbody and sitting on the hip? I had that problem w/ a JuJuBe Between. Great bag, but it just felt like it stuck out to far from my hip. I think that is why I like the looks of the Sydney, it looks nice and slim against the body when worn crossbody. But, my overstuffed wallet might be too thick to fit in the Sydney! Wish I could see all of these bags side by side in a store to try my stuff out in!

Also saw the Kipling Alvar (saw a shiny black patent one at Ross but didn't like the material) and the Lug Moped (used to own one, it was too small then but may work now that I don't have babies to carry stuff for!)

I think your wallet would be fine in the Sydney.

I love the black baggallini I got at the container store some years ago. I don't know if they have that style anymore but it's small, carries a ton and best of all, has an external smartphone pocket that is super useful. I'm looking for a new one too!

Hmm, the Everywhere bag doesn't feel bulky to me, but obviously that's highly individual. I used to carry a smaller purse, but I find that the Everywhere actually feels more streamlined because it's not so stuffed. Most days there's still a fair amount of free space in it, but it's so nice to be able to stuff water bottles or a kid's shirt or whatever in it if necessary.

Sent my mom links for the 30% off sales at Amazon and shoebuy (shoebuy is still 30% off today and it goes slightly down tomorrow and Wed.), for the Baggallini Sydney and Province. I couldn't decide which so I figured I'd let her and then I'll be at least a bit surprised at Christmas :)
