Thanks- one more question - how do I know the expiration date?

The expiration dates are in the emails which amazon sends to you when they apply each credit to your account. I do not know of anyway to check on the amazon site itself other than to chat with a rep. I noticed when the date changed from March to April in the emails and made a mental note of how much I needed to spend by March.

I checked my balance, and it says I have some MP3 credit and some digital video credit. Do I have to use them in those specified categories? I prefer credit to go toward books. Can I change it somehow?

Mine says the same, but applies to kindle books as well.

so mine shows $15 credit in video and $15 in mp3. Is this $30 in total or really only $15 I can use in either category (+kindle)?

Yep. It is $15 only for any of the 3. When you go to buy it automatically applies it but won't tell you till the very end (after you have to select a cc and everything.)

The whole promotional credits thing is SO confusing...definitely something Amazon doesn't do quite right.

So I had "$9 in amazon mp3" and "$9 in instant video"...but what it really means (I think) is that I have $9 in digital purchases. I just bought a kindle book that cost $6.xx, and when I went back to check my promotional credits, both of the $9 had gone down to $2.xx.

SO confusing. And, there's no indication whatsoever that you are applying your promotional credits when you check out (and I HATE having to use one click. HATE IT!).
