2 year old nephew is absolutely obsessed with cooking and being a chef.
He has two toy kitchens and lots of plastic toy foods plus accessories.
I'd like to get him a high quality wooden kitchen item with lots of replay value.
I was thinking these wooden eggs: http://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Easter-Pretend-Children-Kitchen/dp/B00BMQEY30/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1426972040&sr=8-15&keywords=wood+eggs

But the yolks may be a chocking hazard
What else would be good? Not your run of the mill M&D stuff- something nifty and surprising.

Those look fun!
Would you consider/ have time to make a set of felt play food? A few years ago, I made my kids some play food sets (just flat pieces with a bit of Sharpie embellishments, no sewing)- one ice cream set, one sandwich set, and one fruit bowl set. I just got a bunch of colors of felt (rectangles you can find at Michael's or Joann's) and cut them into different shapes- lettuce, tomatoes (cut triangle pieces in the middle of the circle to look like a tomato slice), cheese squares, ham & turkey, peanut butter, jelly, pickles (colored on the little seeds in the middle with a green Sharpie), wheat and white bread pieces shaped like a bread slice, bagels (hole in middle), etc. Did ice cream scoops in different flavors, a cherry, banana slices for a banana split, chocolate & other toppings, etc. Kind of fun, light to transport, etc. :)

Plan toys cutting food is pretty nice. We have a fruit / veggie set that's held up nicely with no chips. They have a bunch of other sets too that look fun. If you would consider plastic, learning resources food ( we have the cupcakes) has been a hit here. Also I don't have any but the green toys food sets look interesting.

The Ikea felt food we have still gets a lot of love around here and Boo's had it for probably 4 years. We love the veggie basket and the breakfast set.

Those eggs were fantastic!!! I ordered them! We do have the Melissa and Doug fruits, veggies, sandwiches, cutting food, pizza, and canned goods. My kids are happy with them. Our wow item was the Pottery Barn Kids tea kettle. It makes a pouring sound when you tip it. The kids love to make tea with that and their Green Toys tea set. I like the PBK appliances. They're expensive but fun!

Those petit fours are gorgeous!!!

The best play food we ever had was from the Chenille Chef on Etsy. We had the most adorable donuts and ice cream cones...so cute! I don't think she's making food anymore though. I can look to see if we have any left, if so, I'm happy to pass it on to you. It still looks brand new. I may have given it to my niece though. She's got L's play kitchen now, and it may have gone to her with that.

Second the recommendation to look up play felt food on etsy. I used to have a shop and sell tea party stuff-scones, cookies, tea bags--but there were a ton of other shops who sold things like pizza, salads, burger sets, etc. I got out of it because other people were charging so little, but that's a good thing if you're looking to buy! Here are a couple shops I liked:

My girls have had lots of fun, and still play with our M&D cutting foods set, and sometimes the birthday cake. They also like the M&D cookie set that MIL has at her house. And they have loved the cupcakes, ice cream cones and cookies from Learning Resources. Many of these still get used when they are "cooking" for their AG dolls (they are now 6 and 8).

I can't get into the M&D pizza. Why can't M&D put lids on their wood boxes? Such a small piece of really cheap wood would make such a big difference.

I sooooooo agree about the lids!!! Those open boxes are a major PITA! Someone should do an etsy business just making tops for those Melissa & Doug boxes.

I also think the pizza is lame, but my kids LOVE it.

My kids got this Green toys pizza set as a gift and really liked it. It was light, sturdy and had enough pieces to be fun but not enough little ones to drive you crazy! More realistic than some play pizza sets plus it had its own pizza box and order forms which were a big part of the fun.

I was also going to suggest this! DD got it for Christmas when she was two and still plays with it three years later. All the kids who come to our house love it!

How much fun! Those wooden eggs are the bomb! I want them, and my littles are almost out of kitchen stage...
Etsy options:
I oogled the Haba turkey for a while, but this looks even better (can stuff the cavity)

This M&D felt pizza set comes with a pizza box and is awesome (I don't like the wooden M&D food)
We own this and it is also in the top two
http://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Felt-Food-Pizza/dp/B004PBJOD4/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1426992189&sr=1-1&keywords=felt+pizza

This Wood fired pizza set from HABA is super cool..

I have to admit I bought all the IKEA felt food. It's very cheap, but my kids never used it much. I wish I hadn't spent the few $ on it. Might be good for a stock the kitchen piece, but I wouldn't get if for a "WOW" factor.

I think the more interactive the food pieces are the better the longevity....

My kids would love these! I'm ordering the eggs now and adding the egg beater for gift ideas for later. ETA: Decided against the eggs for now. They are tiny and I'd be too nervous about the choking.

He likely has it already if he's been chef-obsessed for awhile, but if he doesn't, what about a personalized apron and chef hat? My DD got one for Christmas and loves it.

Also, instead of a food item, what about a kitchen appliance that isn't usually part of a play kitchen? Like a mixer (http://www.amazon.com/Hape-Playfully-Delicious-Mighty-Mixer/dp/B00710LHPY/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1426995453&sr=1-1&keywords=play+mixer), a toaster (http://www.amazon.com/Hape-Playfully-Delicious-Pop-Up-Toaster/dp/B00712NTWQ/ref=sr_1_11?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1426995453&sr=1-11&keywords=play+mixer), or a coffee maker (http://www.amazon.com/Hape-Playfully-Delicious-Coffee-Maker/dp/B006WZM79O/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1426996063&sr=1-1&keywords=play+kitchen+coffee+maker)?

Another food-related-but-not-play-food idea would be this play camp stove set, so he could cook in a different "setting", too: (http://www.amazon.com/Educational-Insights-Grill-And-Go-Camp-Stove/dp/B000HAY766/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1426996229&sr=1-1&keywords=play+campstove)

My kids never loved felt food (Ikea or otherwise). Cutting food is always the favorite here. The pizza/birthday set from M&D is a close second.

Not super twee but the Melissa and Doug pizza and birthday cake sets always got the most love here.

My nephews adore the wooden M&D pizza set that DD has.

I, on the other hand, absolutely hate it - she never picks it up and I've been collecting "pepperoni" and "mushrooms" from random corners of the house since Christmas. It's been on my fecal roster since she opened it.

On the plus side, it fits inside a 2-gallon zip-top baggie, so there are storage solutions.
