I am petite (5'2, usually a size 2) but pear shaped. I have trouble finding bathing suits that fit well and are flattering. I mostly wear tankini style. I have a few short swim skirts that I like for running around the beach/pool with kids, but I would like a non-skirt bottom for swimming since the skirts get clingy and take forever to dry when I am going swimming not just hanging out on the beach.

Anyone have any brands or cuts of bottoms that are flattering for a pear shape?

Athleta has some cute swim shorts.

Experiment with regular bottoms. How high they are cut on the thigh makes a difference.

I have a similar build and really like Athleta medium tide and full tide bottoms. http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=964878102&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdReferer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F

Thanks! Ordered a couple different cuts from Athleta to try including the high tide and medium tide.

Crap- I didn't try the swim shorts bc I didn't have luck when I tried them a couple years ago (they actually seemed to accentuate my problem areas!), but now thinking maybe I should have since the style seems to have changed!

I personally feel like they aren't super flattering except on Athleta model types. I think higher cut bottoms look better. But, I might just not like swim shorts. :)

Ditto. The boyshort cut is not flattering on me at all.

I hope something from your order works!

There are different styles. The ones I love and have 3 pairs of are the Oceanside swim bottoms, which they don't seem to have any more. The best versions of this swim short were from around 2012-13. They've been getting more and more snug ever since! This looks like the current version of oceanside (fun in the sun): http://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1026490&vid=1&pid=413982162

I am pear shaped too and wear tankinis all the time. These looks show my favorite style of bottoms:

I find if the bottoms have more coverage then I actually look and feel heavier/frumpier. My tankini tops are long enough to cover my belly pooch, so I am not worried about showing off too much!
