We are going on a 10ish hour drive in a couple weeks, to a crappy place with nothing to do (Thanks MIL, but that's a point for the BP) except for that I booked a hotel with an indoor pool and indoor playground because otherwise it will be even more miserable.

We are mostly going to drive there overnight, but I am thinking about toys for the car on the way back. DS1 will watch my phone for hours and hours but DS2 isn't really interested in much. (Ages 4 and 2)

So far, I'm thinking the travel sized magna doodles and water wow coloring books...any other ideas (especially stuff I can order from Amazon or track down easily.) We will probably bring trains and train tracks and maybe stomp rockets for the hotel/outside, but any other ideas for the kids would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

"Think Fun" makes a few travel-size versions of their games/puzzles. I actually just picked one or two up for my kids - for the SAME reason as you. Didn't look up the ages your looking for - but i think one of them was Rush Hour Jr. - search it on amazon and maybe you can find something similar like that?

I know Melissa and Doug makes a "car" bingo we played in the past.

We also depend on lego's - even though a MILLION parts - they can occupy for a LONG time. We have a soft sided travel tray for the car.

snacks...lol...

Honestly, every kid is different but our slightly older 2 yo did great on our 20+ hr spring break drive to FL (mostly in daylight although he did nap and fall asleep earlier than normal). On occasion, I handed him a handheld DVD player, but mostly he just looked out the window--cows!....horses!...buildings!...trucks!.... He loves cars and planes so he held those, looked through some books, etc... My kids like those magic ink pens, colored those fun packs at the dollar spot (for about 3 minutes). We refused to stop if he was sleeping, so time your meals/gas on the road wisely.

Although there are a few apps he likes, he mostly looks at pictures on my phone. Maybe you could give him a little photo album.

a ball -- gertie makes a nice one -- for kicking and throwing and even in the pool. Sticker books (I used to get them at costco but below is one from M&D). Not sure if your kids like blocks but I feel like they are very flexible toys for kids that age (not sure if you are flying or driving or could have them sent to the hotel ahead of time). I linked to some M&D blocks -- $19 seems like a nice price. GOOD LUCK!

This M&D water coloring book is a huge hit with DS. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009B7F6DO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

DD likes these sticker books: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DEF8XVQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I've seen versions of both at Target.
