View Full Version : Help me find an awesome top/sweater for TV interview!

Some of my research is going to be profiled in a TV science show (for nerds ;)) and I'll be interviewed on camera next week. It isn't live and I can do retakes, but I would love advice about what to wear. I was told - no patterns, no black or white. They are filming me at my work space, not a business suit environment. So I'm thinking solid, bold colored top like deep red. I want to look serious but not totally dull. I don't own anything like that right now (well, a couple of old red sweaters but they won't make the cut, and one silk shirt in deep red that I haven't worn in years). I have a new pair of BR black trousers that should work fine.

Any recommendations for a top or sweater I could get? I want something not too fitted/clingy - something that does not accentuate my so-not-flat belly. I can go shopping this weekend so something at a B&M store (I have Banana Republic, Gap, Anthropologie, J Crew, ON, Athleta, Target pretty close by and more/higher end options further afield). Something from Zappos could also work if I order tomorrow.

Also, it's been a while since I've done a TV interview (and I'm not sure these guys will bring hair/make-up people) - so any make-up or dress advice would be appreciated! Maybe I should hit Sephora's earlier that day! :)

Did you get a pleione top from Nordstrom? Wonder if that would work?

Blue and green are usually avoided as well due to the use of blue or green screens, but if you aren't going to be using screens and blue is okay then I think you should be fine. I would not wait until the morning of to figure out your makeup just in case you have a reaction or hate the way something looks. You want a foundation without spf because the spf ingredients can cause a glare. I would keep everything on your face neutral and definitely don't forget the mascara. I know it could look intimidating but I would try the MAC counter for at least foundation. Also if you can makeup shopping tonight (or really anytime today if you can manage) it will be a better less intimidating experience than going on a busy weekend day. If you can't go tonight then I would go on Monday AM just so it is not a crazy experience. I also prefer the stand alone makeup counters to Sephora, but that is just me. Good luck!

Nope, I don't have one but will check it out! ETA: Which one of these many Pleione tops do you think would work? http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/womens-tops-tees/pleione~7113

No blue screen, they're filming on location. Is MAC better than Sephora? It's actually closer to me than Sephora is, I could try that out instead. The interview is Tuesday afternoon - good point about not going over the weekend. My hair stylist does make up too, I might just see if she can fit me in the morning of!

Something like this would be really cute-

Loft has a TON of really cute sweaters and blouses.

Thank you - love both of those! I might have to hit Nordie's this weekend.

Thanks to WtG and solsister, I did indeed spend my Mother's Day afternoon at both Nordstrom and Loft. Found a fabulous burgundy colored shirt at Nordstrom which should work. The pleione shirt was gigantic on me even in the size XS!

ETA this shirt in burgundy in XS - does not appear to be online. The French blue color was beautiful too - I may order it if this washes and wears well. They had it in about 6 or 7 colors in the store.

Tried that one on and it hung off me like a potato sack! Do not have the curves to make it work. ;)
