The background here is, DH's grandfather turns 100 this September. I spoke to DH's aunt yesterday about the party. That's when I found out they want everyone to dress "old-fashioned". (Aunt was very excited about this idea! VERY excited.) So, I'm trying to decide how much I want to spend to look "vintage". :)

I've spent some time looking at Modcloth, and am considering something like: http://media1.modcloth.com/community_outfit_image/000/000/197/712/img_462w_75cb8c4b7825.jpg , minus the cardiagn. That way, the shirt is something I can easily wear to work, and the shirt & skirt can be styled to not look as vintage later.

I've also been to unique vintage, which I hadn't heard of before yesterday, so I was wondering if anyone had bought from there before? Specifically, I was looking at something like this: http://www.unique-vintage.com/collectif-1940s-watercolor-floral-tamara-chiffon-swing-dress.html But, I don't see it getting used after the party.

For those wondering, I'm 5'-6", 175-ish, and wear a 12 most of the time. If you were me, what would you wear?

Ah, and just so no one thinks I'm aiming a bit too "new", aunt said she's dressing in 40s style clothing so she can sing "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy", so I think 40-50s would be fine.

Also, if anyone has ideas on good places to get clothes for my kids, let me know those, too!

Also check out Pin Up Girl Clothing (http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/). I love going in there to try on the dresses.

How fun! I think post 40's/50's styles will be your best bet due to availability and suitability to an curvier figure ;) The hardest part about finding vintage clothing is finding sizes greater than an 6 or an 8, when a larger size is available it often gets snapped up b/c there are so few of them. You are luckier than me though because of your height! Here are some other stores you might check:

- E-bay and etsy can be hit or miss, they are generally overpriced and often misrepresented as far as condition, but I've gotten some scores there
- https://www.bluevelvetvintage.com/ - super nice to order from, carries her own line, some other modern lines as well as vintage clothing
- http://www.trashydiva.com/
- http://www.shabbyapple.com/ - I've never ordered from them, but like looking

Can you do something like a Joan look from Mad Men? I find her styles to be easier to pull off than the 50's nipped waist http://www.fashion-era.com/trends_2010/mad-men-hendricks.htm#Slinky_Joanie_Looks_for_Curvy_Girls_ Joan_Holloway

Sorry these are probably mostly dress links, not shirts/skirts
