My extended family and I are leaving for a vacation to Turks and Caicos next week (so excited! haven't been out of the country since before my kids were born). I usually lug around a huge and heavy Coach leather purse. I was thinking I would try to go minimalist on this trip and bring something small that I can fit essentials in when we go to lunch or dinner or walking around.

The island we will be on is reasonably safe, but I'd be more comfortable with something I can wear cross body.

I need to be able to carry (at very minimium): Epi Pens and Benadryll tabs, my phone, a credit card and my license, a little cash, keys, and a lipstick. I realize if I try for something really small, I will probably not be able to fit suncreen, hand sanitizer, and my sunglasses. I guess it's a tradeoff. I am thinking I'll probably have a larger bag with me just in case, or I might be able to put some extras in my camera case.

I really like these little bags from Coach. Tried this one in the peacock color in store, and I can (just barely) fit what I need--the Epis press on the leather a bit. I hope it wouldn't cause any damage. I just noticed the blue metallic color on line, and the price is less. (?) I was thinking the peacock would be fun for the Caribbean but wonder if the darker color is more practical?

I also saw this Coach bag in peacock leather on sale at Macys--great price! The only problem is there is no little strap included to use it as a wristlet. I like that versatility. Maybe because it's a little too big?

If that link doesn't work, here it is (in a different color) on the Coach site.

Those don't seem practical to me. I feel like you'd be better off without leather so the bag won't add weight. This one: http://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/mz-wallace-small-sutton-quilted-oxford-nylon-crossbody-bag/4135172?origin=keywordsearch
Or just go with a non-fancy Sherpani. You can find them at TJ Maxx or REI and they're super practical.

You could try something from Le Sport Sac. They have super cute patterns, and lots of different styles. They're my summer go-to bag.

I have a giant Le Sport Sac bag to take on as a carry on (or to fold up and use as a beach bag).

I had forgotten about the MZ Wallace Small Sutton! I love the Jade! That's a great idea! I will give that a try. Would make a cute summer purse, too (for later next year).

The littlest Coach wristlet/cross body is super cute--but maybe too small for this trip.

This is my favorite cross-body ever. I have a grayish-cream color and it goes with everything. I let my sister borrow mine and she loved it so much she bought one too.

I love my Kipling crossbody. Macy's often has them for good prices. They are great quality, comfy to wear, and you can throw them in the wash on occasion:) The zippers are amazing. My kids have a Kipling crossbody too. They have tons of styles/colors/sizes. Get ones that completely close with zippers to prevent the pickpockets.

no wristlet strap but nice and compact

this one has a wristlet strap

They have many others that are slightly larger which I'd actually lean towards just to give you a bit more room while still keeping things small.

So I ordered the MZ Wallace small sutton in jade--just love that color. It seems big to me, but not as much when I clip the sides down. It will hold a fair bit. I can even put my SLR carefully in the bottom and not carry a camera bag (as long as I don't toss it around). So that's a possibility.

Then, I found the Marc Jacobs Cross Body (Percy Q) on Amazon in a turquoise color called "Rip Tide" on sale for $134.99. I had to order it to try it out. Color might wind up being too bright, but it was tempting also. Such a great price. I could see bringing both bags and using one when I want to carry my camera and the other for a clutch/simple small purse for dinner. I am clearly over-thinking this--am a bit nervous about this trip for a variety of reasons (first ever intergenerational family trip and I feel responsible for it, as I pretty much planned it; we also have to drive on the wrong side of the road and are not staying right on the beach and will have to do a little walking). So this is what I do--obsess over details I can control.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P7RIOBI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 (price is higher today--different seller)

Keeping wardrobe to mostly navy, white/cream, turquoise, aqua, khacki. I seem to have a lot of clothes in those colors.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Your solution sounds perfect!

I love my small Sutton for travel.. carried it (phone, few papers, wallet, EpiPens and sometimes my mirrorless camera) on a trip to Italy last spring... very light, smashes down easily. When we were in the city, I used a small locking s-carabiner to keep the zippers clipped together to deter pickpockets (though it wasn't really an issue). I loved not having to carry the camera out or separately, and I never put it down when we were out so I didn't worry about damage to the camera.

Th MJ Percy is very cute!

Is the mzw Cleo too small?
