Looking for something white, that is reasonably priced and will last until she goes to college. Here are a few we are considering, but I would like to keep the price as low as possible. I've looked on craigslist, but nothing good, and I'm not sure I want to take on a painting/refinishing project again, as I did quite a bit of that over the summer.

Here are a few, but they are beyond our budget, except for the ikea one. I like the Maxtrix one from sendmetomyroom, but the hutch is $279 extra, which brings it over 800, waaay too much!!!! But there is no tax and shipping is free. We have the Maxtrix beds and they are awesome!

With the goal of it lasting until college (5-7 years?) and keeping price low I would go with the Ikea. I really like that particular desk and almost bought it for myself a couple of years ago, but it wasn't quite the right size for the space. The Matrix one looks great, but personally I would not spend that much on a kid's desk.

I was in Macy's furniture gallery looking at sofas and my girls begged me to look at the kids' furniture. They had a really beautiful white desk for a really great price. I can't find one online for less than $500 but I'm pretty sure the price was around there. I know the couches were on sale for about 50% off and are now back up, so maybe the desk was also a temporary markdown or a floor sample.
Either way, I would add Macy's to your shortlist if you can find a decent price. I rely heavily on the reviews and find them to be accurate but I've had excellent experience with their customer service. I'll be watching the website to see when the sofas get marked down again!

I would go with the IKEA desk you linked in a heartbeat. In fact, it's exactly what I'm looking for for my daughter, except that it is too large for our space, at 61" wide. If the size isn't a problem for you, that's the one I'd get. Namely because it has a file drawer, which somehow in my mind, gives it longevity. There aren't many white desks with file drawers, for some reason... I've scoured the internet.... if they have them, then they're too big for my space, or too expensive.

Have you looked at home decorators yet? This one can have a hutch added:
http://www.homedecorators.com/p/deerfield-student-desk/00/410/
http://www.homedecorators.com/p/deerfield-student-desk-hutch/00/410/

And they offer 3.5% cash back through Ebates, and $30 off $150 code right now. http://www.ebates.com/coupons/home-decorators-collection/index.htm

Thank you. Do you think the quality is at least comparable to the Ikea one?

I've looked at Costco and Macy's. Macy's does have a nice one in a dark wood that is $199. But I want white unfortunately! The white ones are over $1000 for the desk and hutch. I love this one from Costco but no way do I want to spend $1000 on a desk and hutch! I may have to keep combing craigslist....or get the Ikea one, but I prefer the hutch with the shelves better. It seems more functional to me.

Here is the Costco one. http://www.costco.com/Olivia-Desk%2c-Hutch-and-Chair.product.11602685.html

I have purchased furniture from Home Decorators and it has been good. Not heirloom quality, but perfect for your purposes. I would snap up the one klwa linked to with the outlet price/coupon code/Ebates.

Wow, that Home Decorators desk is under $200 with the discounts and ebates right now! I'M tempted to get it for DD who wants one also!
It's only 18" deep, though, and not the amount of storage the IKEA desk offers. Do you have a space or storage requirement?

I haven't bought a desk from there but I've gotten several book shelves. They've been pretty decent little book shelves.

I would say Home Decorators is equal or slightly better than IKEA depending on the product.

I really like the HEMNES, and it provides a larger work space and storage than the Home Decorators desk. If you have a smaller space though, I would go with the Home Decorators desk.

jerseygirl, what did you end up with? The Home Decorators one is on sale now for $146 plus tax. I'm totally tempted, despite the small size and lack of storage space.

Thanks to this thread we went with the Hemnes white desk and hutch vs Pottery Barn version. It is large but she loves it and it is nice. Thanks! Not the OP but found this helpful.

Believe it or not, I found an amazing one on Craigslist for get this.....$25!!! The person could have easily sold it for $100-200. I guess they were just trying to get rid of it quickly and we lucked out. It is a white desk with hutch, about 53 inches wide and 24 inches deep with a hutch that that has two shelves, and the desk part has one drawer on top, three drawers on the side, and added cubby storage on the other side. It is formica, but it is solid and very heavy. We just had to fix one of the drawers, wipe it down with magic eraser and it is in perfect condition!!!! We really lucked out!!!
