I got a pair of ugg black leather ankle boots on sale. I sized up as typically I'm a 6.5, they didn't have that, 6 i couldn't get my foot in, 7 was a little tight width wise but I knew they would loosen up. They have and now my heel slips. I'll try adding heel grips, anything else to try? They're really comfortable and I can't return.

Maybe add an extra UGG insert, like these:

Or if the UGG insert is too thick, maybe the Hunter Shearling insert might be a little thinner:

That way, you retain the shearling comfort, but make the too large boot feel smaller.
