I have to ship something valued at $30 back to the people we bought it from (my mistake in ordering it). It is a large but very light package (30x13x5 & 5 lbs). So far the cheapest I can get is USPS is $15. Any thoughts on doing this cheaper?

Did you already create accounts with fedex and UPS websites to check their pack it yourself rates?

Yes. UPS was even more expensive than the post office.

Back in the day, I remember FedEx being cheapest to ship strollers. Their package measurements fit those large boxes at a lower rate than the others.

But, for a $30 item, I think it's just a fact you'll lose a large % lot to ship it back. Can you re-sell it locally?

Is to going to a business or a residence? If you can send it to their business, it might be cheaper. (UPS is a lot more when sending to a residence.)

Usually USPS is the cheapest option and I don't think there are any ways to get around sending it back for anything less than parcel post.

Reselling it is probably your best option.

I always "love" how my MIL pays $20 shipping to send us a big box of dollar store crap that is broken in 2 days or I end up sending off to Goodwill.

Did you look up the usps rate if you "click and ship" printing and paying for the label online? That can save up to 20%

The size of the box matters more than the weight. Try to get it in the smallest box possible.

Fedex ground is usually fairly inexpensive. Also if you are near Staples, they ship ups and there's often coupons
