Recs for a new purse, black or gray

After attending a wedding and a funeral in the past 2 weeks I've decided I need a new purse. I have one nice leather Jr. Drake purse that I use for fancy occasions and it worked fine for the wedding, but was too small for the funeral (I traveled 3 hrs., and this purse barely holds my wallet and I knew it wouldn't fit my sunglasses or anything else). I have a tan leather bag but its more casual and since I was wearing black for the funeral it really stuck out. Most of my bags are casual cross body bags (Kipling, Baggallini), or large totes in patterns (Vera Bradley, current most used is a Thirty One Retro Metro tote). My birthday is coming up in September, so I thought I could find a reasonably priced nicer purse and use my birthday as the excuse to get it :) I'd like black or a steel gray color and either a hobo/bucket type bag with one strap, or with two smaller straps over my shoulder. Would need to hold my large wallet (currently a Kipling), my large sunglasses case, small cosmetic bag, phone, keys, and other small things like pack of tissues, etc. Nothing so big that it looks like I'm carring the kitchen sink, but nothing too small either.

I checked at Ross and TJ Maxx yesterday but didn't find anything I loved. Everything was either the long cross body strap or made from cheap fake leather. I'd love real leather (a soft smooshy kind) but that may be out of my price range. MZ Wallace is also very much out of my price range! Any other suggestions to look at? Would most likely have to order it online as we don't have Nordestrom or anything like that here.

I found a nice black leather Furla tote at our local good will store for $8. But if you don't want pre-owned items you can try Kate Spade or Coach outlet stores. They are always having a sale! Also you can sign up for Kate Spade emails and they'll email you when they have up to 75% off surprise sale. They just had a surprise sale recently and I bought a new bag for $125 and got 3.5% cash back through ebates. Sorry I don't have an exact bag recommendation but shopstyle search is awesome at finding what I'm usually looking for. Hth!

You didn't give a price range, but Nordstrom Rack has some hobos that fit your description and they are buttery soft leather. I got a Hobo crossbody after posting here about my purse search and it has been great.

I have this bag from a few years ago (non quilted) from Kate Spade and I love it. It is nylon, but it still looks nice, it is lightweight and it holds a lot while still looking dressy. I think the quilting will actually make it dressier than the one I have.

Thanks for the ideas. Kids go back to school next week so I might take a trip to the outlets one day to see if I can find anything. I told DH I wanted this as my B-day gift and he said he would never be able to pick out something I liked. I said of course he couldn't, that's why I would buy it myself :)
