View Full Version : Honest thoughts on this purse?

So I am on a quest for the perfect black (or dark gray) purse. Something a bit nicer than the rest of my casual purse collection (crossbody Baggallini and Kipling, patterned Vera Bradley and Thirty One totes). I want something large enough to hold my wallet, large sunglasses case, and a few other small items. But nothing too big or heavy. And I was looking for leather, but on a super budget :) Most things I'm finding are just way too big or too pricey. Anyways, I found this leather Sak purse at DSW on clearance for just $30. Love the size and the braided handles are unique. But, I'm not completely sold on the stitching on the front. One one hand, the pop of colors would go nicely with a lot in my wardrove. On the other hand, its a bit more casual than what I was originally looking for, and I'm afraid the stitching on the front is old lady-ish (turning 37 tomorrow so don't want anything that screams old lady, LOL!) Honest thoughts?

I like the shape of the purse, but I really don't care for the stitching.

NMS, but I have seen a lot of design/ fashion items recently that are global inspired like that, so it's probably a trend right now.

NMS also don't like the short strap for carrying it.

I think you can do better. It's pretty casual. It would be a fine purse if you had multiple bags, but it doesn't fulfill the black bag you need.

Not my style. I think the busy stitching and busy pattern are what makes it not a "basic," classic, all purpose black bag.

I spotted this bag at Target and really like it Check out this item at Target http://www.target.com/p/women-s-suede-tote-handbag-merona/-/A-50974433. It may be too big for what you're looking for, but the price is right.

Thanks for the honest comments. The size is great, but I don't think I can get on board with the colorful stitching. It just seemed like a great deal at $30!

I will check out the Target suede tote roobee. Looks like they also have a gray one online. Gonna hit up another DSW this weekend and see if they have any other great deals (also have some rewards to use up). My local store also had this Vince Camuto tote for a steal, and while the leather was soft and smooshy, it felt a bit too big for what I need and kinda heavy. No zipper or magnet closure either.

I'd also check Nordstrom rack if you have one near you. Hobo (the original) makes a lot of nice smaller bags that read less casual and you can often get them really cheap on amazon, 6pm, etc. They tend to be really lightweight for leather bags too.

Unfortunately no Nordstrom Rack around here :( There is a Fossil Outlet in Lancaster and I will be over there this weekend, so maybe I can talk DH into going there to look around.

TJ Maxx and Marshalls are great places to look at purses. Good brands.

If the Outlets have the niemans & saks outlets those are definitely work a look as well.

Why don't you just get a plain black classic tote? BR always comes through for this type of thing.

I generally love BR's bags. Classic yet stylish at a very tolerable price point. Another option is the secondary market.

Nordstrom Rack has free shipping over $100 and free returns so I would just find a bunch of bags you like and order them and then return the ones you don't like; you also have the opportunity to try them in your own own home with your own stuff. I also think most brands like Dooney & Coach offer free return shipping. There is always Zappos too.

The Sak bag is nms; but I have to say I love the Sak wallet I bought recently.

:yeahthat: I would also suggest consignment stores or Goodwill if you have any around you. Consignment stores seem to have a decent selection and the prices are usually good. Goodwill will probably have a lot of junk but you never know! I am also a fan of TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I have found some really nice designer bags there at less than half the retail price.
