got a bit of sticker shock the other day and this morning filling up. Curious on price of gas per gallon? and your state?

its $2.33 per gallon at one of my local pumps since the gas tax went into effect last week in NJ. Previously it was around 1.78-1.82 per gallon and always paid under $30 for the Camry and usually under $35 for our subaru outback. This really sucks considering we pay so much so much in other taxes :irked: i keep telling myself at least we're lucky not to be paying what my friends and family back home in Ireland pay; easily 6-7 dollars per gallon for their cars.

It's been around $2 here for awhile. It should be higher but prices have been artificially low for awhile. I can't find a good link from my phone but I've read several articles over the past few years about how the low gas prices really aren't a good thing.

It's one of those things where I'd rather not pay more as an individual but I recognize that it's better for the economy and environment if prices are more realistic.

wow, I can't remember past college gas ever being less than $2/gallon, and that was over 20 years ago. That would be nice!

I just paid $2.89 for premium and distinctly remember reminiscing with relief that only 2 years ago it was $4.89/gallon and I was filling up 3 times a week... too much driving, too much stress, and too much $ for gas for that time if my life in this same place.

Its been $2.30ish for regular unleaded here for quite some time. We have some of the highest gas prices in the USA I think (Burlington, VT)

I just paid $2.80 for Premium at Costco, and that is cheaper than the usual gas stations. I was used to seeing close to $4 for a while this past year. I'm in CA.

Northern California, San Francisco suburbs, the big corporate stations (Chevron, Shell etc) run around $3/gallon. Arco, Safeway and Costco are closer to $2.40. It was definitely much higher a couple years ago. This is fairly cheap for us.

Paid $2.15 at Costco seems to be around $2.30ish elsewhere (for regular).

I did hear about the gas tax in NJ that moved it from the bottomish to near the top in terms of cost.

Yes, we went from being the 2nd lowest gas tax in the US to something like the 6th highest due to the $0.23 gas tax hike.

It hurts right now - I just switched vehicles from my PT Cruiser (sold to my sister over the summer) to DH's old Edge.

At least I'm not driving too often anymore.

ETA: corrected the ranking, per NJ.com (http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2016/10/christie_signs_23-cent_gas_tax_road_funding_deal.html)

$2.33 in WNY. We've had tax on gas forever. This is actually cheaper than it's been in a long while.

Nononono - the gas tax itself isn't new, it's the increase that's hurting some of us.

Southern California and I filled up in a really hcol beach city yesterday and paid $2.89, which is cheaper for beach cities, and close to what I pay in my slightly cheaper hcol area. I think Costco is about .15 to .20 cheaper than most gas stations. I haven't paid under $2 a gallon on a regular basis since maybe 2004. Anything under $3 a gallon in California is cheap. I think this past spring and summer I paid as low as $2.05 for diesel, and $2.45 for regular.

Same here. South Bay. I bought gas yesterday (I buy at a 76 but the price is forced lower due to Safeway gas across the street) and can't tell you what I paid. If it's under $3 I don't blink anymore.

eta: when I first started driving I could fill a 13 gallon tank for under $20.

Midwest, ranges from 1.95 to 2.05 for regular, been that way for a few months (this is at regular gas stations, price at Sam's club seems about the same).

I remember in college (90's) I could fill a 13 gallon tank for about $10!!! To see it having gone from <0.80 to >$4 just boggles my mind.

OP Good to know about the NJ gas tax b/c we used to make sure & try to fill up in NJ when driving south. I guess now we'll have to plan differently.

I just paid $2.51 for regular this afternoon. Granted, it wasn't at my usual place as I realized I was on fumes :bag: it's been a long time since I've let that happen.
My usual place is at about $2.39, cash *or* credit (LOVE THEM!).
And a bit OT, but do the gas stations by you uncharge for using a credit/debit card? It seems like most of the ones near me do charge more when you use credit/debit...

Yes, it's 10 cents more at the pump if paying by CC or debit. Annoying! I remember after moving to NJ from DC in 2004. I always paid cash at the pumps, but stopped years ago when price really went up.

Depends on the station, but they have to post the difference on a large sign in addition to posting at the pump.

Close to me, the Sunoco and Valero stations have different prices for cash vs. credit, but Exxon, Wawa, and QuickChek do not have different prices.

On the Turnpike and Parkway, there's a single price as well.

Needless to say, I never fill up at Valero.

It was 1.91 when I filled up last night but down slightly like 1.87 when I drove by the gas station this morning. Anything under 2 makes me pretty happy.

$2.85 regular unleaded or $2.95 is a good price for premium and what I need for my car.

$2.25 but if I use my grocery card coupon at the end of the month, I often get a 30 cent discount.

I'm in NJ also! 23 cents per gallon was a huge hike! I agree, it doesn't seem right that we should have this additional tax burden, since our property taxes are among the highest in the nation!

Hmm, prices had gone up because of the hurricane last month. But I thought they'd started going back down. We're around $2.20 I think (but DH filled up my car the last couple of times, so not sure.)
