My DGSs are wearing sizes 14 & 16 in Big Boys clothing. We went to a football game and I purchased one DGS a long sleeved tee in Men's small and it fit perfectly. In shirts and sweatshirts, would a Big Boys 16 be equivalent to a Mens small or was this just lucky? It seems all of a sudden they are outgrowing clothes and shoes very quickly.

My 13 year old DS1 is almost 5'6 and 128lbs.

He wears men's size medium in shirts which I think is like size 18-20 in boys shirts. I had to buy him a boys size 20 dress shirt a few weeks ago. So yes, I'd think that men's size small in shirts is similar to boys sizes 14-16, which my DS1 no longer fits in but wore in 6th grade at 11 years old.

My 13 year old DS1 is 5'2" and 125-130 lbs. He is wearing men's small shirts and 28x30 pants which is on the small end of the men's size scale.

So I'd say that your grandson is at the transition point - size 16 seems fairly close to men's small. Depends on his build too. My DS1 is of stocky build, so he needed to move to men's for shoulder width and thigh width (he's a hockey player and it's thighs are enormous). If he were lanky or really slim, I'd keep going with the boys sizing. Boys sized pants don't work for my son anymore.

He is very slim, but he's wearing size 10.5 shoes already. Seems he will be heading for a big growth spurt. Boys sizes are probably more affordable, since he probably won't stay in a size very long.

My DS is 14, wears a size 11-12 shoe, is 5'8" and maybe 115 lbs. He fits into a boys 18 pant the best. He can wear some boys 18 t shirts. For a dress shirt, I got him a mens XS at the gap--with a slim fit. He could have taken a small but I wanted it to fit well for photos. For tshirts and polo shirts, he takes an Adult Small but I can see him in an Adult Medium by summer. It is hard and then there are the brands that fit differently. sigh. It's a hard transition period.
