View Full Version : What boxer briefs after XL Hannas?

13 year old DS1 says his size XL Hanna boxer briefs are getting too tight. We wants new ones that are exactly the same! Anyone know of any brand that makes similar comfortable boxer briefs?

What about men's small or medium?
ETA- Costco has some good ones.

My 11 yo DS loves Under Armour boxer briefs, though we just switched to their boxers, because the boxer briefs were getting too snug on his thighs.

DH really likes the ones from Old Navy and Gap. I think they are pretty much the same (as each other, the waist is different from HA) -- the material is very soft.

Under Armour. Ds1 has been wearing the same HA boxer briefs since 1st or second grade. He is slowly switching to UA and loves them.

My 12 yr. old son has worn these Under Armour compression shorts as underwear for a few years now. He likes them
because they are longer than the regular Under Armour underwear. He tried a pair of the UA underwear and they were like booty shorts.
These compression shorts are longer.

Also, I forgot to mention the Tommy John underwear. My husband listens to Howard Stern everyday and Howard was talking about
the Tommy John underwear. He said that they are the most comfortable underwear he's ever worn.
Then, my husband and I were watching Jimmy Fallon and Kevin Hart was the guest. Kevin Hart was talking about the Tommy John underwear.
Apparently, Kevin Hart is an investor in Tommy John underwear.

So, long story short, I bought DH a few pairs for Christmas. He LOVES them. The material is so soft. He says that he can't even feel the
underwear. He wants me to order more. I looked at their website yesterday to get more and their stock is really low. I hope they get
more stock in soon!!

If you decide to place an order with Tommy John, let me know! I can send you an email with a referral and you will get 20% off
your first order. :)

Not sure why I opened this thread as I don't have boys, but DH likes 2xist (which was a Clinton Kelly from WNTW rec. years ago), and Tommy John both of which I got at Nordstrom Rack, plus the Kirkland ones from Costco; all three are pretty fitted though. He also likes Calvin Klein, but only the ones from Macy's or Nordstrom because the ones from NR didn't seem to fit as well or they shrunk too quickly.

I don't think any brand is really like HA underwear. Theirs is so thick with the rolled band top. I've tried most of the others in this thread, and they all are much thinner and mostly with the regular elastic band top. That being said, I don't hear a lot of complaints about the other brands being uncomfortable. I'm just pointing out that they are quite different.
For the kid who cares most about softness, we buy kickee pants boxer briefs. But I'm not sure how big their sizes go.

You can get custom undies on etsy. (Or sew your own if you are comfortable sewing knits--they're pretty easy!) Hanes has a tagless comfort boxer brief with a covered elastic band.

DH just bough Duluth Trading Company boxer briefs and said they're more comfortable than UA boxer briefs. DS wears champion brand from Target

I am so tempted to buy these for DH as a joke, but they aren't cheap, like $23 a pair (I usually buy a pack of 2 for $30-$32) as their commercials are laugh out loud funny (NHL network plays them all of the time) and DH doesn't complain about his underwear much at all so I am not sure they would be worth it unless they last for years. For the OP though these are probably as close to Hanna you will find I bet. (They make a women's line as well, but I haven't tried them as I am not a big fan of bikini underwear.)

I'm guessing what he loves about HA are the waist and none of the ones mentioned have that waistband. These are the closest he will probably find

I think hanes also has a version similar to this.
ETA yep they do http://www.target.com/p/men-s-comfort-soft-waistband-boxer-briefs-assorted-5pk-hanes-underwear/-/A-14491255

We had this issue with DD when she stopped wearing Hanna unders. My boys never seemed to care.

Duluth Trading has these that have the wrapped waistband (I think I bought some like these from Kohls for DH years ago, buy they didn't last as long as the regular waistband and DH didn't mind the regular):

What did you buy for DD when she stopped wearing Hanna? DD1 is still in a large hipster, and loves them, but it maybe a year away until she outgrows them all together (do they make an xl hipster?) but I already thinking about what route to go for her as well. I was thinking of posting a spinoff post for the girls!

Those Hanes with the covered waistband are DS2's favorite. They are more like the HA ones than any we've tried.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Yes, I think he likes the covered waistband that Hanna's have. I bought some of the covered waistband Hanes boxer briefs for DS2, but they seem so much thinner and not as soft! DS2 who doesn't like Hanna's either, won't wear them at all, but maybe DS1 will! I'll start there and then move on to the more expensive brands. Maybe the men's Hanes are thicker and softer than the little boys?

Ok, so I ordered him one pair of Under Armour 6" BoxerJocks and they came today. He HATED them lol!!! Said they reminded him of his swim jammers!

The Hanes Comfortsoft boxer briefs should be here in a few days. Maybe those will be better!

If your son does like the Hanes boxer briefs, and fits a men's small, the boys' XL size is essentially the same (28-30 waist) and is usually a few dollars cheaper.

why don't you take him shopping and take a few brands out of the package and let him feel them before ordering multiple packages to try.

My son hates the UA boxer jocks because they are too short. They look like booty shorts. He said they were uncomfortable
because of how short they are.
But he loves the UA coolswitch shorts. Most of the boys that he plays sports with wear these as underwear. They are longer
and more comfortable for DS.

Also look at H&M. I haven't looked in a while but their boxer briefs used to be great (so great that I never saw the need to pay for the brands other people are saying). Nowadays, brands like Hanes have stepped up theirs game on nice waist bands too. As I mentioned before, the last pack I bough at Costco are thick, soft and quite nice too.

I love H&M for DS's underwear. It holds up great. If you have a Uniqlo nearby, check them out. I think they are cut smaller, being an Asian brand.

Because I'm too lazy to leave my house and he hates going to stores too lol!!! 😂 😂

We have a mall 3 blocks from our house but I seriously can't even remember the last time I was able to convince him to go. I hate malls too!

See, I don't think he'd like these either because they are even more jammer-like. He doesn't like things "sporty boys" like because he doesn't do the regular sports like everyone else, including his brother. He's into fencing and archery and blacksmithing. I think he wants cotton, not a mix of athletic fabrics which make them too similar to swim jammers.

I think I'll try H&M next.

Corie - my DH also listens to Stern and converted to Tommy John underwear two years ago. He loves them too but he's had issues with getting holes under the waist band. I'm okay with replacing them since underwear isn't optional and he really loves how they fit / feel :) just wanted to mention it to you since you recently got them for your DH :)

Uniqlo Men's supima cotton soft band boxer briefs. My son used to love Hannas and H&M but he's been wearing boys' Uniqlos exclusively for years now, and those men's ones are the same material, cut and waistband.

Good to know about Uniqlo! DS has decided he's too big for Hanna, though he has wirn them for years and years. We were at Uniqlo just yesterday – I didn't think to look at underwear but I made ds look at clothes because he is super skinny and I thought the clothes would fit him. He didn't like any clothes, unfortunately.

DS1 has these from Uniqlo but the waistband is exposed and not covered like the Hannas.
