My DS is determined to sing a song from the Hamilton soundtrack for his music studio's audition. He'll play guitar while singing.

We're struggling to pick a song. Any suggestions? It would ultimately be sung by multiple kids with multiple instruments, but he needs to be able to audition solo. He also needs to be able to sanitize the lyrics, but that's a whole additional conundrum.

What are some of his favorite songs? It may be easier to narrow down that way. I think the hip hop songs would be the hardest but any others would be fine.

I'd go with My Shot. They offer a clean version of the soundtrack so it should be easy to find a sanitized version.

I've recently been singing some of Washington's songs to myself, and they seem good. But a little tricky maybe. Don't have the list in front of me right now... but I'll think about it.

Hm, that's tough! My first thought is that for just him and a guitar Dear Theodosia would be perfect, but that won't be good for a group later. I'm going to think about it! How old are the kids?

I agree that Dear Theodosia on guitar would be awesome!!

Is he a tenor or a baritone ?

If he can pull it off , Wait For It is incredible, but it takes a lot of control.

One Last Time is a vocal showcase as well. But challenging.

I am a huge fan of Your Obedient Servant ("I am slow to anger but I toe the line / when I reckon the effects of your life on mine"). But it's a duet.

My daughter's favorite song is "Dear Theodosia"...it's clean and she also used it for her audition. Good luck!!

:yeahthat:

The reason that came to mind is that Miguel Cervantes, who plays Alexander Hamilton in the Chicago company, did a Ham4Ham with that song on guitar. LINK: https://youtu.be/zbh1MzpVLzw

It's really good! Chicago peeps are wicked lucky with this man.

I play guitar and these are not easy songs to play! You'll be back might be one of the easiest (and funniest). I saw a 10 year old sing Right Hand Man at a Ham singalong that just blew me away, and it's also a solo feature piece that he can later do with an ensemble. Dear Theodosia is a classic ballad, melodic, and for two people, not an ensemble. Another option is What'd I Miss? which provides some uniquely Hamiltonian lyrics (which I assume he's going for).
