I know this will vary greatly by the area you live, but I'm so curious to see the variations! I don't go every 6 weeks because it is so expensive here. I try to go once every three months, but more and more gray is showing up and that 3 months is feeling like 2 months too long, lol. I pay $180 for partial highlights, toner and cut - plus tip. I called and asked what a root touch up would cost and was really (unpleasantly) surprised with the price - $75. I've been going to the same stylist for several years and I really do like how she cuts and colors my hair so I don't want to change. What do you pay to have your hair done and how often do you go?

A friend referred me to her stylist who has her own shop. I pay $60 for base color, highlights, and cut. I was going every 3-4 months to try to space out the cost but the gray is coming in quicker now, so she suggested I just do the base color touch upwhen my roots start to show and do highlights every other visit. I think she charged me $40 or $45 for the touch up. Those prices are the best I've found in this area, the salon I used to go to was $80-$100 for highlights I think (several years ago). I would be hesitant to go very often if it was $180!

I pay $105 for a single process color and cut and blow dry. When I started I was going every 3 or 4 months between visits. Sadly I'm now in the 5 week range. I don't notice it at 4 weeks but after 5 it seems I'm overrun with grays.
I had thought of doing an at home root touch up but I don't even know where to start so I can't.
I'm outside NYC at a small salon. I think in NYC or at a larger salon I would be closer to $200.

I don't color my hair, so it's just a simple haircut. I pay $75 including tip, every 8 weeks.

It was creeping up to $150 for partial foils and cut/ style. I went to just face frame highlights for a while and got closer to $100. I gave up coloring (will probably go back at some point) and pay $60 for just the cut/style.

I do a cut and balayage color every 7 weeks. It's about $250. That is expensive for my area.

I just went in last week for a baselift, hair cut and blow dry/ style and it was $100.
Usually a partial foil highlight is $80ish and a full foil highlight is $100-120. Fwiw I have crazy thick hair. Blow drying my hair is a serious project! Also I live in a suburban area with a lower cost of living.

That used to be my salon. It was a small place run by fantastic polish stylists, but she was an hour away from me. When I was working, it was only 30 mins from my office. Doable for every 4 months. But that was when I didn't have grey hair showing up much, and pre kids. Now it's too far.
So I switched to a local salon and pay about 110 for single color process, cut and blow dry every 6 weeks. Every other visit, she adds in partial highlights which brings my total up to 185.

I don't color. I just get a hair cut a couple times a year. I pay $39 plus tip.
ETA: DD and I have donated our hair twice now. While growing it, I just get the ends trimmed at Great Clips for about $12.

I don't color my hair just get my hair cut every 7-8 weeks and I pay $60 including tip. I have been going to same salon for 8 yrs. now. If my current stylist leaves (she only works part time) I may branch out and try a Deva stylist, but for me it will be worth the extra cost to go to someone who knows curly hair; my current stylist isn't Deva trained, but she knows what she is doing.

Cost is why I gave up and accepted my gray hair. The cut is about $75, but color + highlights was pushing over $200 with tip. Plus I never had time to go get roots taken care. I have a lot of gray and I'm early 40s. I need to start using a shampoo for gray hair that brightens silver tones.

I pay $110 plus tip for cut and single process every 6-8 weeks. I hate spending so much an going so often. I wish my greys looked nicer so I could leave them (my mom greed early, never colored, and it looks great on her), but the don't blend well with my color and style.

OP similar cost to you for highlights and cut. I spent a bit more this past time because I had highlights and a full process done. Highlights are much more expensive than a single process. Anyway, because of the cost, I went a year between appointments. Normally I try to go every 3-4 months.

$75 for a haircut every 8-10 weeks or so. $125 for half head foil highlights every 3 months. To save some costs, I'm trying to go 10-12 weeks for the haircut. Grays are now interspersed throughout my hair so I can't stretch out getting highlights without the grays becoming really noticeable.

I do color, highlights and cut every 3-4 months and it costs around 185 with tips. I have started doing root touch ups at home and it is so easy and saves me a lot of money!! I use this and seriously you can not mess it up. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170204/3a2dec980fea5e850b79d693c1eef303.jpg

Thank you! That's pretty much me, too. Except I do color my hair. I got my first grey hair at 6. http://m.schwarzkopf.com/skus/en/home/brands/color/KeratinColor/5-3_Berry_Brown.mobile.html

HCOLA - single process and cut/dry is $215. I don't do highlights b/c of cost. When I first moved here I tried 3 different salons. All were about same cost, not including tip. I did highlights a few times and that pushed cost to over $300.

I get my hair cut maybe twice a year (am growing it out) for $45-tip included. I color my hair for $4. I love how the color washes out evenly and doesn't turn my hair reddish, which for a box color is huge! I have grey streaks up by my face that turn to "highlights" when I color my hair, and, I am cheap. :)

Heavens! I can't recall what I was paying to have my hair colored back when I colored my hair! I think it was in the neighborhood of $80-$150, but I stopped having it colored in 2003 or so and haven't gone back. (I could use some color at the moment to add some warmth, plus highlights/lowlights, but I'm not really motivated to maintain it and DH doesn't seem to understand exactly how often I'd have to go.)
Anyway, for a stylist cut/blowdry, the salon I was going to starts its charges around $42, so it'd be about $60 with tip. I wasn't going as often as I needed to, mostly because I keep telling myself I'm not a priority.
As much as I need a haircut, DH expects services to charge Hair Cuttery prices, which means $60 for a haircut is serious sticker shock. (I think $26 for a haircut - before tip - is sticker shock, too.)
Last, maybe it's different for me because I don't have any noticeable grey hair, so I've actually gone over a year since my last haircut (it shows; I'm not growing it out and actually hate it long) but have been dragging my feet about coloring because I don't want to get trapped in the maintenance-go-round.

Generally, I get my hair cut once a year/18 months, and I pay whatever Great Clips is charging (under $20, plus tip). I did get my hair highlighted (bright blue!) over the summer, and it cost about $200 including tip. I'd love to do it again, but I can't justify that kind of money. I'm regretfully letting it grow out.

Medium COL area - $85 + tip for haircut. BUT - I have curly hair and 90% of her clients have curly hair. The ten years I've gone to her have by far been the best haircuts I've ever gotten. I usually only go every 3 months or so which makes it less painful, and although I'm graying I don't color (and am at the pony inn ever will. )

I live in a HCOL area but go to an Asian salon with decent prices. I just had my roots touched up yesterday, and it costs about $50 for a single process color.
I have a sensitive scalp and dry hair, so I add a scalp conditioning treatment and deep conditioning treatment under their hair steamer for about $50 extra. I hate the added cost, but my scalp and hair thanks me for it.
I think haircuts are in the $40 range.

I believe it's $130 for cut and single-process color/glaze. I have A LOT of thick shoulder-length hair.

I refuse to accept how gray I am LOL. But I just don't have the time to go to the salon as often as I need root touch-ups.
I also started doing root touch-ups at home. I have used the one Pennylane posted and I have also used this one:
http://www.lorealparisusa.com/products/hair-color/products/root-touch-up/root-rescue.aspx?shade=9-Light-Blonde
My hairdresser told me which color to use. She also said you can use regular hair color as a touch-up. That way you can use the same product for both all over color and your root touch-ups. The directions to do this are in the product box. This is the one she suggested and I have found that it is very easy to use:
http://www.garnierusa.com/products/haircolor/nutrisse/blondes/dark-natural-blonde-70.aspx
For any of these products, I have found that my grays are very color resistant and I have to leave the product on for longer than it says. My hairdresser said that was normal. She also recommended always going a shade lighter. My natural hair color is light brown and she recommended I go no darker than dark blonde hair color.
I have also recently started using this to lengthen the time between touch-ups and it works very well and looks very natural. It isn't permanent and washes right out. I only wash my hair every 3 days and it generally lasts for 3 days. Sometimes I have to touch back up along my hair line.

I get my hair cut about 3 times/year. I pay $50 plus tip. I've been using my stylist for 15 yrs+ and it used to cost more when she was at a fancier salon but she moved to a smaller/more basic place and the cost adjusted down. I'm there for the cut not for the decor/ambience, so I'm happy with the lower cost. I moved about 2 years ago and I still drive about an hour to go to her. She's great and the cost where I live now would be much higher.
I color my hair at home because of cost, product ingredients, and because I'd never be able to get to a salon often enough to keep up with the grow out. I use http://usa.herbatint.com/
