We have a road trip coming up & I would like to try some audio books that the family would enjoy. DS is 15 and DD is 10. We are not very picky but we do like a little humor and good narration. Thanks for the recommendations.

They skew a little young for your crowd, but try the Ramona Quimby collection. It's read by Stockard Channing and it's thoroughly delightful. My kids loved it, but so did DH and I.

Last summer we listened to 2 different audio books by Gary Paulsen read by actor Peter Coyote. Not a comedy, but good adventure stories. My kids loved them. They are not too long either. Some audio books IMO are just too long to keep kids interest.

For funny stories try Carl Hiassen's teen and kids books.

This one holds a special place in my heart since it's where I got my DD's name. It's also a touching story.

And you can't go wrong with Holes by Louis Sacher.

Harry Potter
The Underland chronicles by Suzanne Collins - it is a series of 4 or 5 books. Nothing like the Hunger Games.

I just finished reading this book with DS2. We both loved it! We're now reading The Watsons go to Birmingham, by the same author.

We listen to a lot of Garrison Keillor on road trips. We also do a lot of Jim Weiss, but I'm not sure if that would appeal to a 15 year old. My 11yo still loves all his stuff, though.

We love the Tiffany Aching series by Terry Pratchett. The first book is Wee Free Men.

The narrator for the Harry Potter series also narrates the Peter and the Starcatcher series. Those are probably aimed younger (age 10ish?) but my family enjoyed them.

They might like the old twilight zone recordings. We devour them!

I've been enjoying The Hobbit and will probably start Lord of the Rings next.

Anything by Wendy mass or try the "chocolate books" by pseudonymous Bosch.

I think Gordan Korman's Ungifted and Schooled would be great for those ages. I listened to them on audio and enjoyed them.

I honestly cannot recommend "Harry Potter" highly enough!!! Jim Dale is BY FAR the absolute best narrator that we've ever heard!! I think he has the world record for the most voices in one book - I think he had over 130 different voices in the Order of the Phoenix!! Seriously amazing!! I'd been fed up with the music on the radio so I decided to start listening to Harry Potter audiobooks last summer. I RARELY turn on the music now...my music-obsessed 12yo DD requests HP the moment we get into the car! We are on our 2nd run-through now. If you listen to the series nonstop, you'd listen for 5 straight days!! He's just an AWESOME narrator, although the material isn't bad either. ;)

ETA: We also have The Princess Bride. It is good but REALLY SHORT. I think it is only 2 hours in length.

:) We were so not fans of the audio HP! It went so slowly. But, I know most everyone loves Jim Dale. Just get a back up book in case your family is crazy like ours. ;)

We didn't like it, either! Don't like that narrator at all...

The UK version read by Stephen Fry is much better in case you run into it somewhere. I borrowed from a friend otherwise I would lend them to you!

We just added Spaceman to our list. For non-books, we listen to a lot of Jim Weiss.
