My 1st grader doesn't do well with timed tests- at all. her teacher has just started the +1, +2, +3, etc timed math facts tests and DD can't even do the +1 within the minute.

We need to work on speed in a fun way- she's shutting down with the week of just math problems on paper we've been doing.

I'm willing to pay for a great app that lets me customize the problems and is FUN!!! I've bought a few that haven't turned out to be what they were advertised as:32:

has anyone had good experience with such a thing?

That's really young to start timed math tests. My kids liked math bingo.

I don't think my kids did timed math fact tests until second grade. I feel like it was a big thing in third grade (with multiplication). My middle child is in second grade, and he hasn't mentioned anything about timed tests.

Yes! My DC don't love it but it takes 3 minutes a day and they can be on their way. We've seen great progress in both DC since starting with it.

Our school uses xtra math as well though I dont know if a parent can customize.

dd2 is also in 1st and they do have timed math tests as well. They're not called tests though; they call them 'sprints'. less pressure that way.

Xtra math is great drill but not fun. Big Brainz is more video game style. My kids love it.

We use Quick Math. Dd1 started these tests in K and really liked the app. Dd2 even plays on the app, just for fun.

Can you provide a link? quickmath.com was way to advanced for my first grader LOL (unless it is user error and i couldn't find the more simple math which is likely too :ROTFLMAO: )

TIA!

I found Quick Math as an app on my iPad. I'm not sure if it is a website as well. It can be very basic. Lots of plus 1 questions in the beginner mode. It looks like the maker is a company called Shiny Things.

We use these:

I get it. We have a kid with anxiety who shuts down when the timer goes on. His teacher exempts him from the timer and he finishes first. Put the timer on and he doesn't get past the first problem. Literally, the words "DC is not timed" is all it takes - even with the timer going.
