I have some basic woodworking skills and would like to be able to make some simple projects look cut shelving or simple Ana White projects. I know I can get Home Depot to cut to size, but I'm thinking of starting to get some tools. Any suggestion for a saw that would be useful? I'm thinking a circular saw. Using the hand saw isn't fun!

Depending on the size of what you are doing, consider a compound miter saw. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=miter+saw

I got one years ago, when I lived by myself, and did all my molding and small projects with it. And now it gets used more than the circular or table saws do. It's portable, easy to cut in a straight line, does angles, etc.

We have a miter saw that I use a lot. I mainly use board lumber, so it works well for that for sure. I often use multiple boards Kreg-jigged side by side when I need a wider plank, if that makes sense.

If you are mainly needing plywood sheets or wide single planks though, then a circular saw would be better. We don't have one, but we do have a Kreg guide thing to rip down plywood. I usually make my husband do those because our saw is just heavy and I feel better letting him do that. I'd love a circular saw too, but we manage without. We do have a smaller saw that I could try, but I just keep asking him to help me out. :)
