I need to keep cat treats in my living room to help deal with a particularly stubborn cat. I also need 8yo Dd to be able to open and close the container. I would like it to be decorative.
So far I have tried
1) a ceramic sugar bowl
The cat nudged and nudged until the lid came off
2) a thick paper box with a magnetic closure
The cat chewed through the box
3) a leather box with a magnetic closure
The cat pushed it off the table over and over until one day she got a lucky fall and all the treats spilled into the air vent
4) a tin with a tight fitting lid.
She pushed and nudged until she removed the lid

I am currently using a locking oxo kitchen canister . The cat has only managed to open it once. It is quite unattractive and not what I want in my living room.

Can you wrap the oxo canister in decorative paper or other decoration? Or put it inside a larger more attractive tin or container?

Is there a closet nearby where you can stash them?

Is there a closet nearby where you can stash them?. Not really. I need to keep the treats near the pet crate where we stash this cat whenever DD is eating. If I put it up higher, then Dd can't reach and I just need her to be able to help with this task. The cat is absolutely obnoxious about food. If she wasn't so awesome the rest of the time, im not sure we would put up with this particular feline

I also can't realistically move the crate because it is a nice wood one we bought that doubles as an end table.

What about something like this that is stored on the floor?

I just want to say that your travails are very funny to read about! That's a clever cat!

The only locking thing I have is a different size of this, which I bought at Walmart in the CD section. Mine has a 3-digit combo lock, not a key, and you can set your own combination.

Turns out the company makes a large line of various locking cases, including makeup cases and such, that may suit your look better.

A few more antics just for fun

She regularly steals baths. You can't start filling the tub and walk away because she will hop right in for a swim

She will spend hours shimmying open a drawer to get to a makeup brush. Those are how kept in a heavy container that I have turned facing a wall.

More than once she has jumped up on the counter and run away with an entire stick of butter.

She once ran up and ate a bite of garlic bread out of the piece that I was currently biting into.

On the flip side, she adores our DD and puts up with all manners of being picked up and over cuddled.
