So, as I have posted before ds is doing club soccer, which mean lots of tournaments/ games. I have been searching for something for dd and I to sit under that will help with both sun and rain. I bought a Sportbrella XL . Dd and I used it this weekend for a tournament that was very hot and sunny. I don't think its the right thing because
-I wondered if it is too flimsy/not strong for rain
-I don't really have any place large enough for it too dry off when its wet due to rain
-We found that it made it too hot when it was sunny/hot and we werent' always able to stay far back enough to have enough shade.
-The outer bag may have already ripped (definitely opened some stitches).
-Towards the end of the last game, I figured out that it worked best for us if I held it up so it was upright (basically a huge umbrella in the air). This allowed a lot more air in then the windows did, gave us more visability and more shade.

I can still return/exchange it. I am wondering if I should just get the regular (non-XL version) or if there are other ideas?

Thank you!

I only just noticed these this year and thought it looked smart until I realized how you had to use short chairs (vs normal camping ones) with it. No thanks.
We have a $50 (on sale) pop up tent from Dick's. We successfully used it at some rainy swim meets. I like that we can fit about 6 chairs in a U in there so we can socialize, if desired. Takes 2-3 people to set up though.
We also bought a camping style chair at Costco that has a built in umbrella. That's pretty good.
Honestly, we usually fall back to our camping chairs and holding umbrellas. :) That and a blanket that's waterproof on one side, fleece on the other. Keeps your lap/ legs dry.

We have a sportbrella XL. The only time that I use it at soccer tournaments is when DH is with us. I personally prefer just using the short-handled golf umbrella from the Costco 2-pack umbrella set. I like the portability of just popping it in my handle bag and moving it however I need to accommodate the sun, rain, or wind direction. Quite often we have to walk a distance from the car to the field...so I am all about packing the least amount possible. DH, on the other hand, overpacks...which is strange as it's usually the other way around. I have two of these umbrella packs, so 2 shorts and 2 regular handles, so DD2 and DS can both have their own if they want to hang out elsewhere near the sideline.

We have a regular sized SportBrella. I like it but use it mostly at the beach for shade, not really for rain. I did not buy the XL version because I read that it was so big that it did not easily fit in cars even when folded. I dont have an SUV so it didnt seem like a good option.

Thanks for the replies!

I never thought of/knew there were waterproof blankets (I'm not a camper) and really like that idea! Are they just sleeping bags? I will also look on Amazon.

Anyone know if Costco (I know this may vary by location) is still carrying the 2 umbrella set? I have never noticed these!

I do need something that I can do pretty easily with minimal help. I do find the Sportbrella so easy to set up and take down.

Thanks! Does this comfortable go across 2 people or would you recommend everyone have their own?

Alas, I don't have that exact one. But we share the one we do have. I'd measure out a blanket you have laying around to get the dimensions and do a test at home to see what size would be good. :)

As of last week, my Costco still had them. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170807/70b0f907d36032249fb63cbd89946875.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170807/dc3a0d89514ef8d8e206edaba6e5665a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170807/d9a41440d7218742e2d724ad98b3e60b.jpg

We currently have umbrellas that clamp to the chair frame, though we're mostly looking for shade as little rain to deal with here.
