I'm following. DS has to get a whole set (pads, mouth guard etc) and it comes up to $100 through his taekwondo school! I'm looking for other options.

We just buy the ones through our TKD school for about $3. We put it in almost boiling water to soften it, then it goes into the mouth for them them to mold it to their teeth. My older son didn't like the one the ortho gave him.

Unfortunately, sparing gear is pretty costly. Ours was more in the $150 range.

You might want to check with the orthodontist. My younger son chews thru mouthguards so it was getting pretty $$$, so now I just have them made at the orthodontist. Usually more expensive ($25-50ish), but they are durable and customizable and you don't have to deal with molding them.
