I'm looking for a well-priced source for custom window coverings online. I would like to get either roller shades or roman shades in a natural woven wood or natural textured fabric (linen look or other heavier texture) with a backing for privacy/additional light filtering. I have been looking at Karuilu Home which gets great reviews online but they don't have solids, though some of their more neutral geometrics might work. And there seem to be lots of other sellers on Amazon that will do this.

Anyone BTDT?

Are you wanting modern roller shades with a cord, or old-fashioned ones with spring rollers? Lots of the old house restoration places have recommendations on the latter. And Retro Renovation has had articles on the 60's style shades made out of wood/twigs - didn't look too closely, as they aren't my style.

For spring rollers, here are a couple places to look into:

http://www.annwallace.com/roller-shades (here I would go for the traditional cotton, which is treated with some sort of primer, and can be wiped to clean off dust, etc - they do have a fabric with a black-out lining)

http://www.thehandwerkshop.com/

And there are a few bigger companies like Zwick.

Measuring is critical. If you have doubts about getting good measurements - and in old houses at least, they can vary from one part of the window to another - see if there is a local place to get them where they measure and guarantee fit.

We used JustBlinds (https://www.justblinds.com/) when I had to outfit an entire vacation home with woven wood shades. I haven't had any experience with their fabric shades. But I will say their customer support was outstanding. A representative personally walked me through the entire thing, followed up when I received the order, and replaced anything I didn't like (minor issues that would not typically warrant a return, but they really stood by their product). Could not have been easier. And I recall them being ridiculously affordable.
