Hi there...

Please help...I need some birthday favor ideas for 10 to 11yo's girls and boys. I do not want to hand out tchotchke plastic dollar store favors that will just break and/or get tossed in the garbage. I would LOVE something non-candy, as Halloween is coming up. Unfortunately, all I can think of is 1) a DIY S'more's kit, 2) a self-serve candy bar, 3) a king-size candy bar, and 4) a small package of Oreo's...ALL junk food ideas. Any USEFUL non-food ideas?? We really do not have a theme, although DD loves to write and read. I think a lot of her friends do Battle of the Books with her. $2-3 limit per favor.

Thank you so much!

I saw $1 books at Target recently. The Secret Garden and some others. Not sure if they're still there.

We've received gift cards for yogurt places and such, but they're usually $5.

ETA: Are you a Costco member? You could get one of those giant packs of gel pens and wrap them in pretty ribbons on sets of 3 or 4.

We don't tend to get or give favors at that age anymore. You can skip them.
Otherwise, maybe make or buy some cool cookies and bag them in cellophane with a bow.
One year we did fruit (along with crayons, a hidden pictures sheet and a small bucket). Not sure what the kids made of it (they were 6yo). ;)
Card games? Or even just a deck of cards and a cute printout of games they can play with them. Hit the dollar store.

we did $4 gift cards to the local Fro Yo place. it was such a hit, we did it 3 years in a row.

How much are you looking to spend? you could do mini rubrick's cubes or other logic puzzles. or what about some kind of art/craft/sewing kit? Nice clear/sparkly lip gloss for the girls? slinkies? Yo Yos? Kite? flashlight? itunes gift card? deck of cards?

I don't think there is much non-candy for that age for $2-3. We've done single scoop certificates to local gelato place but that was slightly more. Mentors and whoopee cushions. But most people skip (and we have too) once they are this age and older.

I, honestly, cannot thank you enough for all of the awesome suggestions!!!! I would skip it but I know DD2 would be crushed. I'm giving her the option: Costco gel pens (I actually have this pack already), Aaron's Thinking Putty (GREAT price!!!), and the finger lights with DIY S'mores.

THANK YOU for the finger light link!! I think that will be our Halloween treat this year! Awesome find!!

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!!

FYI, we did fingerlights once and a majority arrived not working. Luckily they were piñata favors so it didn't matter, but order them well in advance so if they don't work you can go to plan B.

Thank you! I actually ordered 2 packs so I'll return an opened pack if that is the case. Bummer!!
