DS1 is 12 and had explosive diarrhea (underwear) several (at least 3) times tonight. He has no fever and is now feeling better (he says). It happened right after dinner. We all ate exactly the same things. He is a great student. He has a half day tomorrow.

Would you send him to school tomorrow if there is no more diarrhea or fever?

Nope. I would be concerned it would happen at school. For a half day, I'd let him stay home.

No way! Our school has rules that require a child be 24 hours vomit and/or diarrhea free before attending school. He may have a bug he’ll pass along to others.

No, I would be worried it would happen at school. Let him take the day to rest.

Yes, I would definitely keep him home. You don't want that to happen at school.

Our elementary school has this policy, but the middle school and up do not.

However, I am in the don't send because of potential embarrassment camp.

His school does not have a policy which is annoying. He will be home. And he’s upset since he’s “fine”.

It’s great when you can blame it on the school policy, but I bet if you paint a picture of the possibility that he might have an episode in front of all his friends (and non-friends, and teachers...), he might be less churlish about staying home! I can’t really imagine a worse thing, socially, that could happen at middle school. That’s the stuff of nightmares!

Keep him home. Loose stools are one thing, but explosive diarrhea is another.
