My son's 1st grade class is doing a teddy bear picnic reading party on Friday and I signed up to read a story to the class. What are some good books about bears that
6-7 yr old's would enjoy?

This one is very good!

There's also Corduroy, but I'm sure all the kids have read that one already.

My DD loved the "Bear Finds a Friend" or Bear's Adventure series--short picture books with nice messages. You could always do something from the Bernstein Bears. I'm not sure what Little Critter is, maybe you could say he/she is a bear?????

I'm not sure what is appropriate for a first grade class specifically, but the series-Bears Snores On, Bear Wants More, Bear's Loose Tooth, etc is very cute and has a great rhythm for read-alouds.

Great suggestions! I’ll also add because it’s just funny... “Children Make Terrible Pets” and “Will You Be My Friend?”

The Bear books by Karma Wilson are all fun. My favorite for reading aloud is Bear Snores On, but Bear's New Friend is a wonderful story. And Bear Wants More is about Bear eating, so that one might fit in well for a picnic. :) https://www.goodreads.com/series/96668-bear

Mother Bruce! Cute story with absolutely delightful illustrations.

And, of course, any one of the approximately 4.3 million Berenstain Bears books. Both DD2 and DS went through (are going through) a huge BB phase in 1st grade.

Maureen Wright has a few Big Bear books.

Shhh! Bears Sleeping by David E. Morrison is a more factual story which also highlights the seasons.

ETA: if you Google these, you can preview them online.

I didn't know there were sequels to Mother Bruce until last week. I checked all of them out of the library, and they're great! DS2 has wanted to read "Be Quiet!" every night for the past several nights, and I don't mind because it's so amusing.

I prefer reading Bonny Becker's Bear books above Karma Wilson. Bear is so overly dramatic (becker) that it's entertaining.

Oh, we love these books! I totally forgot about them. "A Visitor for Bear" and the others. Bear is a terrific character (Mouse too).
