Our desktop computer might be on its last legs today, can't get it back on right now. And it's just been problem after problem for months now. I hate going on it. I use it for printing papers/recipes out. Backing up all our pictures and home videos, our phones/iPads and occasionally going online. I want to get an inexpensive laptop. Less than $500. Not a chrome book. DD2 has one for school and I hate using it. Any recommendations?

I got a Dell Inspiron with an i5 processor in December and it does everything I need - basically the same things as you're asking for. It was about $450 from Dell Outlet. Slickdeals often has coupons for an additional % off at Dell Outlet and we waited for one of those to come up before buying.

I agree. Looked at Costco for my FIL when he was considering a new laptop few months ago; found one under 500. Seemed like a good deal to me, but didn’t get in the end.

The ones we have gotten ( 2 kids & me) had bigger hard drives for the same money than best buy had. I have had very good experiences with FairTrade also.

We got my FIL a Dell Inspiron laptop from Staples for $350 for Christmas. For $500 you should be able to get a recent Intel i5 processor, at least 8 GB Ram, also I recommend an SSD hard drive if the price works. They are much faster than an regular hard drive.
