I have always used Common Sense Media. I've been pretty happy with it.

I think there are many other out there, though. I just saw this article, which refers to kids-in-mind.com ; parentpreviews.com ; pluggedin.com ; dove.org

For now, I'm sticking to Common Sense Media, but I'm just wondering if anyone uses these other websites?

Great question! I use commonsense media too bit am curious about the others.

I'm also looking for book review sites that give content/age recommendations. I have an early elementary kiddo that can read at a high grade level but isn't ready for the content in many of the books he's capable of reading. Commonsense has great reviews but I'm not sure where to look when they haven't reviewed a book.

I did Kids in Mind back when I felt the need to vet things. I feel it’s just straightforward with facts and not interpretation or opinions. Lots of spoilers though. When I’ve looked at Commonsense Media, especially the parent reviews, are not how I parent (I’m a lot more laid back). If I do look at CSM, I subtract 2-4 years off their recommended age.

Interesting. I have wondered that at different times. It's not a bad problem to have, but it's true that my DD1 was reading stuff I totally didn't want her to get into - dating/boys, mean girls middle school stuff, girls who was upset that she was fat and talked a lot about it wanted to have more friends and be thin (this one was on a summer book reading list, which really p*ssed me off).

I just googled your question and this is what I came up with - articles about what to do:

I use kids in mind - I find it to be really thorough and straightforward. It makes it easy to determine what the “issues” are for any given movie so you can easily determine whether those are actually concerns for your own kids.

Totally agree - I thought I wrote that exact same thing in my original post, but see that I didn't. Sometimes, *I* am totally fine with my kids watching a movie (and on any give film recommendation from Common Sense Media, my kids are often about 2-4 years younger than recommended by the website), but my kid(s) refuse to watch because they are too scared by the trailer. One DD in particular gets scared easily. But I would happily let them watch.

Plugged in was weirdest website I have ever seen in my life. I use Common Sense Media but I subtract a couple of years as well.
