Looking for a new dog bed for our rescue pup. He's 51lbs. Would like something with a machine washable cover. Had a cheap one from Petsmart that we took with him this past weekend when we boarded him overnight and he destroyed it.

My suggestion is until they are a year I'd stick with cheap options as they tend to get destroyed. At age 1 we got an Orvis one. Something like this and it is in perfect condition for over a year.

The beds with a raised back or nest tend to rip for us -- one of our dogs digs a little and the seems rip. HTH.

I know kuranda is very popular and is our plan if these orvis ever rip!

Our princess prefers the kind with the raised back. The LLb ones have been through the ringer with her digging them and they hold up beautifully. The problem is that they are a huge pain to get the cover back on them.

Although the Orvis one with the raised back seems comfy and are super expensive, it hasn’t not held up. We had to restuff and sew a new cover on it. Orvis has no warranty and they were not helpful to me at all. I would never buy an Orvis bed again.

Definitely go cheap. Costco's bed are great quality for the price - be sure to get a style with a machine washable cover like the basic round or rectangular beds.

Our two both prefer the Costco round beds over any other dog beds we have tried. They have lasted years, and for the price, I’m not too annoyed if something happens to it. In fact, my older rescue dog is snoozing on one next to me as I type.

Another thumbs up for Costco. We're on our second one in 6 years. It's starting to look tired - the middle part is becoming indented, but honestly, I think she likes that!

We did get the same shape so we could have a spare cover.

We have the Costco dog “sofa” with a washable pad. The dogs love it, and it doesn’t look horrible in our living room.

most marshalls/homegoods have dog beds pretty cheap. I was recently able to get one at Sierra Trading Post for $15 and Princess loves it. She's even given up sleeping on DH's pillow in favor of it.

when we adopted our 2 boxers, we got the one from Costco that many mentioned already. Worked fine for them but we realized they preferred to sleep together and the Costco bed kept getting indexed cuz of their combined weight.

we got the mid size from Orvis without the bolster and noticed they loved it. it was in perfect shape for several years by time we upgraded to more expensive memory foam with bolster to accommodate our elderly boxer with sore joints.

it was very expensive but to me worth it since they always slept together so I needed one with good memory foam to handle their weight and elderly joints.

for you, I would get ones from Costco and amazon until you get to know more your dog's sleeping preference.

We like a lot of the Costco beds... currently have the typical round one, a good starter bed, we've had many over the years. Also have a rectangle one with a raised back on two sides, that lives in our bedroom, it's the biggest and favorite for overnight sleeping. We also have the rectangle pad (about 2" thick) that they sell occasionally, it stays in the van.

Main floor of our house has these two much loved beds...
- https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0041D8PAY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - looks much nicer in person, wait for the price to go down (check camelcamelcame.com). Size large is great for our long legged, 60lb dog.
- https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K6TZEQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - khaki color is much lighter in person, price looks good now. 40" is good size for us.

We tried this one, on a lightning deal, but don't really care for how it looks, it's now a spare at Gramma' house - https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZYF1NY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1

I think I am going to try a Casper bed.

I got this one at Frontgate. Love it. I didn't think my dog would like the ones with the raised sides based on how he usually lays and also friends with same breed said theirs didn't. Anyway, the bed is lovely and I like that it could be monogrammed. https://www.frontgate.com/box-edge-rectangle-custom-pet-bed/888866

I would also go as cheap as possible until you know he isn’t going to destroy it.
