View Full Version : How many weeks do your kids have off during summer?

In the state we used to live, kids got off for 10 or 11 weeks for summer... In the state where we are living, I think they get off 9. I'm already seeing is much easier to cover.

I haven't solidified my kids' plans yet and I'm starting to get knots in my stomach about it so I have to call and see what's still available... around here, people start signing up for things in Jan/Feb and definitely by March.

We used to have 12 weeks and are now at 11 weeks. Too short.

12 weeks exactly. We can have up to 12.5 if we don’t have any snow days. It’s too long.

11 weeks but this year it will be around 10 weeks with snow day make up. They are required to have school 180 days per school year.

10.5 weeks. Much too long. I would like that to go down by at least a week.

Mine looks like 11 weeks on the dot this year. Maybe 11 weeks and 1 day depending on if we go back on a Wednesday or Thursday.

One has 12 (public), one has 8 (charter). 10 would be a great amount, imo.

12 weeks here. I'd prefer 10 or 11 at the most, as we're very ready to go back by mid-August.

We're at 10 weeks exactly.

10 weeks & 3 days and that’s with making up snow days. Public school. Previously when DS1 attended private PreK-12 school their summer breaks is 13 weeks! Way too long for us.

It’ll be our first summer with 10 weeks this year, so we’ll see. But I think I already like this better. DS1 last day of school is 6/22 and his half day camp starts on 25th. No break in between cuz of snow day make ups as kids usually have 2-3 days of break before camp starts around here.

11 weeks 6 days - end on a Thursday and start on a Wednesday.

It's been the same basic 12 weeks since I've had a student in the district (10+ years). A few years ago the calendar slid around winter break and we had 12 weeks 6 days. I love summer. This is just about right. The two half weeks gives me 11 weeks of days to play with. It all goes too fast.

We’re just under 10 weeks. I hate how short summers are. I wish is they were out for 3 full months.

Usually 11 but this summer my high schooler has 10. Feels way too short. We used to have 12.5 and go back after Labor Day. I hate the August start!

This year it says 13 weeks on the nose. Yickes.

I feel like it is usually 12 weeks and a day or two.

Each year, as we're barreling down on summer, it feels way too long. WAY TOO LONG.

Then, before I know it, its over. Some weird time warp seems to happen after July 4. Some just compresses and is back to school like a flash.

For DS1, it's 10 weeks and 3 days. For DS2, it's 10 weeks exactly.

9 weeks this year, because they're shifting the schedule. WAY too short.

11 weeks. I wouldn't want to go any later in June and they're not allowed to start before Labor Day, so I can't complain.

Looks like she has 11 weeks (+/- a couple of days) for summer vacation.

We had several snow days, but the ones that exceeded our planned snow days weren't added to the end of the year, they were trimmed from Spring Break.

10 weeks and 1 day. Bad weather days were taken from other random days they had scheduled off like the Friday before Presidents' Day and another long weekend.

School ends the Thursday before memorial day and starts the first full week of august. Too early Imo. The summer flies by and I agree with the comment that once July 4th comes it goes even faster.

We have 11 weeks off. Not nearly enough if you ask me!!!! We get out before Memorial Day, and return mid August. The weather is cold when we get out and spend the first few weeks in the mid 60's, not warm enough to swim. The weather is finally perfect for pool, beach, etc. when we head back.

DD1 who is in 2nd grade has nearly 11 full weeks. DD2 (preschool) has 12.5 weeks. Our public school district (DD1) starts later than most surrounding districts, after Labor Day.

We're in Michigan too. Our county went for the waiver and now we all start before Labor Day. My kids start August 21st. It's complicated by the fact that they can't hold school on Fridays in August, so early starts become even earlier. It's a big hubub over here.

Also in Michigan and we start August 27 this year. And we have the Friday before Labor Day off. For the current school year, we also started in August. We are out on June 8 this year.

Now that DS1 is going into high school and has marching band taking up a lot of August, I find I wish we had more time. A vacation, a camp, and boom it's August and band starts.

Next year will be better as the back to school for middle and high school is the week before the one for elementary. next year, I'll have all middle/high kids and we'll have an extra open week.

10 or 11 and most summer camps end after week 8.[emoji19]

School is out 6/15 and will start in the last two weeks of August.

My kids go to k-8 Catholic (diocese supported); the public district I believe gets 12, they go back the Wednesday after Labor Day.

11 exactly, for a public Preschool through 5.

We get out May 24 and start August 2. Summer is way too long. Camp gets out a week before school starts. :32:

8 weeks for the one starting HS (his HS is a different district than his Charter MS), 9 weeks for the one in ES. Next year will be 9 weeks for both. Goes by really fast!

9 weeks province-wide. I'm glad we have more instructional days. Things don't have to be as crammed in during the academic year.

Nine weeks and three days. I wish it was a few days longer.
