What new shows are people enjoying? I need some new shows. I'm liking Manifest and Million Little Things. Not liking Single Parents.

I’ve only watched the pilot so far, but we liked The Rookie. Love Nathan Fillion in anything!

I basically only watch stuff that goes to Hulu. So far I Feel Bad has been pretty funny.

I am loving New Amsterdam and A Million Little Things. I tried watching Single Parents but really didn’t like it.

I haven't watched anything, and there were a few that looked interesting from the commercials. I am going to have to play catch up. "The Rookie" looks cute, but it's also basically the same show as "Castle" isn't it? (Although he looks in better shape, he was a little pudgier toward the end of "Castle").

He is looking trimmer in The Rookie versus the latter part of Castle! :)

I don't think "The Rookie" is like "Castle" in terms of general premise. The show "Take Two" with Eddie Cibrian and Rachel Bilson is a total ripoff of Castle though! It's almost the same show! I'm still scratching my head at the weird controversy with Stana Katic's firing and "Castle" at the end.

I haven't watched a lot of network TV but I spent the weekend stealing hours to binge The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix, which I loved.

I need to re-watch a bit slower and do an episode-by-episode writeup for another forum where I'm an admin because there's a lot of detail, whether from the source-material comics or from horror literature & film references, that I'm finding myself distracted by as I watched the first time through.

ETA: I feel the need to point out that this is NOT a reboot of the 90s Sabrina the Teenage Witch sitcom starring Melissa Joan Hart, but rather an adaptation of the Archie Horror Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comics. It's much, much, much darker and spookier than the sunny TGIF sitcom, so if you were going to watch it without having that info going in, you might be disappointed or horrified (or both!)

I tried to like A Million Little Things. I really wanted to like it. But ugh, I just really don't. I didn't like the characters. I don't buy the premise. It feels very contrived to me.

I've recorded Manifest but haven't had time to start it yet. A few other shows looked promising but I just haven't had any time to find them and watch. I'm obsessed with This is Us and yet I'm still a few weeks behind.

We are watching Maniac on Netflix and I LOVE it! It's quirky and odd, but perfect for us. Really unique, and kind of like black mirror, but funnier and lighter.

Black Mirror is also amazing on Netflix - you can watch them in any order as each is like a short movie with different cast. Love.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a new season which is pretty good.

Taping Blackish, but haven't watched any of this season yet.

I watched the pilot if All American on the CW and liked it. I haven’t seen the other two episodes yet.

My 12 year old started watching Riverdale on Netflix so I need to start watching that although she says nothing has happened, but the previews for the current season look a little risqué.

I don't know if I'm adding to the list, but we caught "The Kids are Alright" last night after "The Connors." It was pretty funny. Even my DH, who does not watch that kind of show, lol-ed a few times.

...

It's pretty soapy in a 90210/Melrose Place sort of way, with melodramatic overacting (Madeline Petsch, I am looking at YOU) and gory subplots (murder & mayhem!) so my friends and I describe it as "trainwreck TV." There are a number of sexual situations and one of the events toward the conclusion of the 1st season is a suicide.

I'd watch to figure out if it's something you're comfortable with her watching on her own or if it's a situation where you'll pre-view and chat about it later. Maybe I am a fuddy-duddy but IMO 12 is simultaneously the target demographic and a bit too young to watch this particular show. (Like 90210 ... I'm sure they tried to target high schoolers, but I was in middle school stealing hours in our freezing unfinished basement to watch it by myself!)

Thank you for this! This is what I was thinking as well.

We have been watching Once Upon a Time with her as well and that seems to be much more appropriate for a 12 year old.

I was 13 when 90210 started and 14 with Melrose Place, but we seemed to always watch those shows with my mom because we only had one tv and nothing else. My mom would’ve said no way had it been inappropriate.

This show drives me crazy. It's so trashy, a classic "high schoolers acting like adults" show which I constantly tell my kids (13 and 15, but they started watching last season) is NOT anything remotely like real life. One of the girls is running a speakeasy, one kid is in juvy and working for the mob, everyone is hooking up... give me a break. They lost me last season when the "good-girl" started doing online sex-role stuff, then killed someone and covered it up. :rolleye0014: DD2 is freaked out by the creepy stuff this season and only watches during the day with lights on lol. I'm pretty sure the 15yo dropped it completely.

I've been trying to watch it with them mostly bc of above, but also bc Molly Ringwald and Luke Perry are in it. :p But they can't save it.

OK rant over. :bouncy:

We watch Riverdale with our 12 year old. Absent porn, I don’t think there are too many things a 12 year old should be restricted from watching.

I have been watching more than usual.

Like "Manifest" due to the premise and wanting to watch it unfold. Such an intriguing premise. Some kind of one-note actors though - the wife has a permanent look of concern on her face all the time, very boring, and the bad guys are ridiculous. Hate that the characters call the voices that guide them "getting callings..." - do they not know "calling" is an actual noun and it isn't used the way they are using it? I was confused one whole episode about whether a "calling" meant a calling to do good, or just "I am hearing voices." Turned out to the latter.

Like "A Million Little Things" even though I agree, very contrived and even sometimes offensive in how it deals with suicide. I sincerely doubt that the Roman character would even answer the phone with suicide pills in his mouth, much less function and act as he does in the days and weeks after. His suicidal feelings only show up when it's convenient for the plot..... so they can give maximum attention to the OTHER suicide victim. Having said all that, I like the way the show looks, I like the actors, I like the friend repartee even though it seems fake, I like the idea of having such close friends.... and I want to know the mystery. So I find it satisfying to watch.

Watched Designated Survivor but gave it up this year, if it's even back on. It was too earnest and silly, the cast too young, and the plot against the government could not live up to the premise.

Watched Blindspot in the past, but gave up last year. Stopped caring.

I like The Crown on Netflix, but that's not new.

No, it got canceled. I tried to hang in there with it, but you’re right on all points. It just became more of a procedural political show, and not a very good one. It’s started with such promise! I have the last two or three episodes from the final season on DVR and I still haven’t watched.

We’re sort of liking The Kids Are Alright, but other than that, nothing new on broadcast tv has grabbed us. I think I’m still recording Manifest, but we aren’t watching it. We always end up choosing something else. We’ve been streaming a lot of spy-type things lately. Over the summer we binged all the existing seasons of Homeland, which I thought was truly extraordinary. Then we did the same for The Americans, which we loved. We just finished the latest season of Man in the High Castle and have started Deutschland 83, which we’re not sure about, but we’re recording Deutschland 86 just in case. What we did really like was a BBC miniseries on Netflix, Bodyguard. It was a huge hit in England, and I think with good reason. A couple of comedies we occasionally watch are Forever on Prime, and The Detour on Hulu. We also watched Castle Rock on Hulu, which we thought was not a waste of time but also wasn’t the best ever. We’re waiting for the last season of Homeland, for Schitt’s Creek, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and for The Handmaid’s Tale. On broadcast tv, as well as having added in The Kids Are Alright, we watch our half hour comedies (Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, The Good Place, The Daily Show) and This Is Us.

I just watched 2 episodes of “You.” Super creepy but kind of interesting.

I also watched the first episode of Julia Roberts’ new series - I think it’s called Homecoming. It felt boring, but I love her.

I just saw this on Netflix this week and thought it seemed quite good, so I am glad for the recommendation. We have similar TV ,it appears. I've been a Homeland fan since it first came out, read online reviews of each episode, and always laugh at the people who say it's not as good as it was... but keep watching it. The seasons have changed and some have been better than others but I've enjoyed all of them.

A Million Little Things has grown on me, but it's definitely the kind of show where you need to turn off your brain and just watch the pretty people. :-)

Other than that, I do like to watch the new Murphy Brown, but I'd honestly prefer that the old ones just be available for streaming. I'm still watching The Good Place and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. And DH and I are catching up on Mom, which we managed to miss for its first five years.

Two of the new Amazon series -- Forever and Homecoming -- I watched for Amazon preview. They didn't impress me then; I wonder if they've gotten better? Both just seemed so bleak.

Thank you!

90210 was completely unreal as well, but at least those kids like Brandon worked in a cafe. Not liking the premise of what you just told me. Wonder what other fantasy type shows are out there and appropriate.

I wish I could get her into something like Saved by the Bell, but she would think it is so corny. She does love Fuller House, but she has seen all of the episodes multiple times. Same thing with Stranger Things.

Don't forget Robin Givens as the mayor! (It's nice to see that her acting has improved a bit since I saw her on stage as Roxy in Chicago, but it's still mediocre.)

I think it's fair to say that someone going into it expecting the good old-fashioned "Sugar-Sugar" Archie Comics brand of sunshine and sweetness might be incredibly disappointed.

My friends and I discuss it on Twitter because we've been wondering when the crash'll happen. This season has been several different kinds of messed up, and we're only a few episodes in!
